    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a good Movie / Media player front end for Ubuntu? Something where you can browse cover art, link to the mount where the video is stored, and perhaps save favourite chapters from a movie for recall later?

XBMC should do all of those for you. You can save bookmarks in media files to come back to at least. Supports all common codecs, nice ui, and supports smb, ftp, and a bunch of other kinds of shares.

XBMC would be the way to go. It's amazing for HTPC's, but can be used on regular PC's as well.

If you can't be bothered to install XBMC, get sabayon linux, you can install that as an XBMC install, or even run it from the live CD!

So if say I add a cover for a movie in JPG format, How does XBMC save that information? In a central database you can backup or something? All in your home directory? Or does it only "scrape" the web for information?

You can setup a video library, and it'll store it all in a database, somewhat like iTunes does. You can use the web scraping to fill in information quickly if you need to.

Hrm... I tried to make a video library by creating nfo files in each folder, but I was unable to get any of that information to show up beside/under the cover art of a particular movie. In addition, is there a way to specify inside an nfo file cover art thats in the same folder, or at least in a relative location to the nfo file, rather than an absolute path?

Perhaps it would be more clear if someone had an nfo file they created themselves they could share with me.
