I'm planning on buying a 360 soon, but seeing as how many of them are dieing, I want an extended warranty with mine.
Amazon currently have a very good deal (premium 360+ extra wireless controller + crackdown + GOW + PGR3 + live arcade classics for £290, only £20 more than RRP of premium 360), But I don't belive amazon have any extended warranty, which puts me off.
Do any of you have experience with taking a 360 back on an extended (>1yr) warranty, if so where did you buy from. At the moment the only places I can think of are argos and currys, neither of which have particularly good bundles for the console at the moment.

Currys, Argos & Dixons etc will charge you a fortune for extended warranties of their own. "Which?" are forever slating extended warranties from highstreet retailers. I got a launch edition, which came with a Microsoft extended warranty offer of up to 4 years. Do any recent purchasers or store staff know whether this offer is still on-going, as that would be your best bet Ed?

Any 1yr warranty returns are roughly 14days without any quibbles so long as you don't peel the sticker (obviously) or let anyone flash the firmware (obviously). You get the same console back, hence my launch edition still being a launch edition despite it's many returns :-( (it's had a new DVD drive, a new motherboard and a new PSU in the last 1.5yrs) but even out of warranty they guarantee their work for 3mths and replace the sticker. Thanks to MS I've also had my game saves humped twice :-(

Re Amazon that £290 deal is pretty good.

Oh, and despite my many misgivings I still enjoy the software. GoW really is outstanding.

Any idea what the MS offer is?
I know warranties are generally a rip off, but when spending nearly £300 I think its worth making sure if it breaks it gets fixed - plus from argos at least its £35 for 3 yrs - so £17.50 over the extra 2 yrs it covers - so Its worth it if more than 1 in 16 consoles break in the second 2 years. I think therefore its worth it. I'm just wondering if anyone actually has experience with any in particular.

That's actually a damn sight cheaper than they were offering last year, so I'd assume they've been taking note of "Which?"

I've been up into the loft and finally (god, I have too many boxes up there) found the folder marked 360 and found the offer....

Looks like Argos are beating MS (shock horror).

It's not 4 year MS are offering, but 3, so 2 additional years for £45.00 (I apologise for that, but it has been some time since I looked at the leaflet).
So Argos is actually £10.00 cheaper and you can bet your bottom $ that you'll just be sending it back to MS regardless. Please, take into consideration this information was correct in December 2005! It is possible that MS are now cheaper, so back to anyone who's currently selling these units or just bought one.

I'm going through the official website at the moment and have yet to see any mention of the above offer. Perhaps it's gone. Two things to note on the MS offer however: A) It states you can send back your 360 as often as required (kind of makes you think they had a notion that might come in handy) PLUS B) you have the option to extend your protection for as long as you own your 360... I don't see any little print clauses in relation to that, so literally you could still be sending your unit back to them until you are in your 70's Ed!

If it's still on the go, that ain't a bad additional aspect for £10.00

Oooo, tiny print at the bottom reads "You must complete & return within 10 days of purchase : Offer limited to the UK"

If they still have that offer in the current 360's I might go for it - Its an extra £10 over argos, but amazon's bundle is so much better that it's worth it. Just gotta wait til I start working again and getting paid :D

    Cheers for the help parris

Retailers warranties and cover aren't that bad, I am paying £4/m cover for my HDTV and it covers accidental damage. If the 12 month manufacturers warranty expores, I will just put a toy car through the screen and say my little boy did it.

You don't need an extended warrenty in the UK. At all.

Check out the Sales of Goods Act. You should expect a £300 piece on consumer electronics to last longer than 2-3 years and are entitle to a replacement. The problem is most people don't exercise their rights and get ripped off.

Remember the contract is with the shop, not MS.

To be honest I'd rather dish out the £40 and not have to go through the hassle of that. Also, I don't see any mention on the BBC or wikipedia of a length of time which would be conisdered 'reasonable' for a product to work for.

Having previously been in the position to fight this one out through Trading Standards I personally suggest giving yourself a break and forking out the cash. If you want to know the outcome, I lost! The culprit "Dell" and the product was a laptop. It was a while back, but it still pisses me off that TS couldn't do anything to really help.

I believe that, should your 360 need repair within its warranty period, Microsoft will then offer to sell you an extended warranty quite cheap - something like £30. Whether you can phone them and take that option on a working console, I don't know.

Anyway, you could go for a Kev special and try shafting one of the retailers mentioned, who don't seem to check the contents carefully when you take it back!

Say your Xbox dies out of warranty.

    Purchase a new Xbox.

    Take home said Xbox.

    Remove said Xbox from packaging.

    Replace with broken Xbox.

Take back, tell them your parents/wife/girlfirend/boyfriend had bought you one as a surprise, found you opening it and informed you of this, so you want a refund.

I am not saying I condone this behaviour, but I have heard of it done at one of the retailers already mentioned. Several times. I won't mention their name (just like on their advert, lol!)

Not as many 360s die as the interweb would have you belive (could be the same 12 people posting the issue under many many names)

That said like anything microsoft you should get some sort of coverage I have a 3 year waranty on my 360 and I think my original XBOX is STILL Covered

Well having heard from shop owners that the 360 is the most returned item I don't agree with your first statement ;)
Are you saying the 360 comes as standard with a 3 yr warranty though? or that it can be extended to that

Isn't Europe Sony land? Could be show owner bias

Well I'm on the otherside of the pond over here it's 1 year and you can extend it by 2 years like I did.
