I'm unfamiliar with the term "administration" and googling it brings up the obvious results. Is that like bankruptcy?

A third party firm comes in to burn off any remaining stock, while trying to get a new owner.

I agree the company is a joke. I bought a pre-owned game from there a while back. The game didn't work had a laser burn but you can't see it because before you know it they put it in the case and put a seal on it and if you break that seal you cannot return the game. I had somebody bring it back as I didn't have time to go down that way and they were going that way anyway. I had only told them it didn't work. The store manager took it out of view and apparently tested it. Well the problem I had was I only tried it online and that's where I had the problems. So they went down again. This time they got told to fob off pretty much and that I must have damaged it as they would never trade in a game in that condition. Obviously bull.

So I emailed their customer service and told them the situation. They told me that I shouldn't have been told no but I could have a replacement or credit. I had to enforce my statutory rights and tell them I didn't want a replacement as I had already got one and that I didn't want a refund because I wanted my money back. After about 4 emails I then got an email from them saying I was allowed to have a refund. I got no compensation from them for the time wasted and the bull I got from the store staff. So as far as I am concerned it's a company who doesn't look after its customers so are you surprised it is doing so badly?

The big rumour is that GameStop may buy them out that way they can walk in as the UK market leader for games. Would be interesting. I know they had a few stores here before but bailed out recently. So who knows.

Same over here in Australian GAME stores, the staff snobbed me off asking for an exchange as THEY fucked up... So guess who they blamed? Me. Fuck em, hope they go in years and years in debt.

I think it is the way they have been trained to be tight with refunds. Which is wrong as they are trying to take the rights from the consumer

Yeah they bought Gamestation from Blockbuster a few years ago. Would be funny if Blockbuster (not that it would) buy GAME and Gamestation for a fraction of what they got from GAME for Gamestation.

Thing is we may have had bad experiences with GAME but the sad part really isn't that we won't be able to get games from there it is that there will be thousands of people unemployed because of the managements bad choices. I really feel sorry for the staff who are right now probably worried they will lose their job. Hopefully a company who can afford to invest the money can save GAME. The two companies I have heard so far are either Walmart (ASDA) or GameStop. Either would not surprise me.

The American one did. It was bought out by Dish an American satellite company. It is the American version of Sky. So they won't be going under for a while.

Lucky UK residents, I am sure at any moment now game would hold a fire sale, and that normally means old stock that was stuck in the "warehouse" gets released for next to nothing, Toys R us did something similar a few years ago becouse they were "downsizing" and I got a whole lot of rare/older games for next to nothing...

I wish BT games would go bankrupt here, there nothing but scum, but unfortunately the sheep dont notice it and flock in droves there.
Atleast I get to fix a lot of there "repairs" :p

I am not totally surprised, I always found game on the pricey side compared to quite a few of the on-line retailers. I generally only went in the stores only to browse or if I needed a game quick for someones birthday etc.

Game he been on the slippery slope for a while now and it was only a matter of time before something like this happened!

They needed to be much more competitive with there prices too. We saw releases at £44.99 whilst the likes of Tesco, Asda and even Morrisons were offering the same titles for as little as £34.99; even offering midnight launch.

This isn't the last you will hear of Game as company though. They WILL be bought as a going concern and would probably continue to trade under the name Game going forwards. Unfortunately this happens daily giving little chance for anyone but the new and old owners a chance to benefit!

This is sad news as it means less competition, however Game were too expensive with their 2nd hand games and new releases compared to other places
