Does anyone have any old cassettes with episodes of The Yorkshire TV series Bad Influence? It was shown on Children's ITV on Thursdays at 4:45, from October 1992 to January 1996. There were 4 seasons, each with 15 episodes of 20 mins, and was presented by Andy Crane and Violet Berlin. If you happen to have any eps, I would be interested in borrowing the tapes to make a digital copy, so everyone can enjoy them. VHS or Betamax, doesn't matter. I would be interested in any other old games shows too, such as Gamesmaster, and perhaps the Bad Influence! spinoff Bad Level 10, broadcast on The Children's Channel. This was revamped on Nickelodeon as Fish'n'Chips.
OMG I used to watch that! i remember seeing some stuff which never got released on there too like the Sega Scorpion (Megadrive with interchangeable internal game - they had earthworm jim installed I think) :-D
My brother won a t-shirt off that show in one of their phone in competitons...but thats about all I have to do with the show, no episodes.
I remember I used to get my parents to videotape it for me, but I seriously doubt they've survived. I'll have a rumage when I go over there at some point, but don't get your hopes up.
I used to watch Bad Influence and Gamesmaster religiously, but I don't think I ever recorded them. Might have some trailers though (have a good few tapes from christmas '94). If you need any help converting stuff if you do get any tapes, I'll be willing to help - I've been arsing around with AviSynth, VDub and Adobe Audition (for audio noise reduction) for over a year now, and have recently been trying to restore some really awful VHS recording from 1989 with moderate success. Judging by your use of the word "Betamax", I'd say you're ok for the hardware side of things! :smt023
Did you know Violet Berlin is married to Gareth "gaz top" Jones. Or at least they live together with 2 children, dunno if they actually tied the knot.
Hmm, I did not know that! Thanks for the response, guys! Would be great if someone found something, for sure! Well, I remember having an episode on video which I found again several years ago - unfortunately I haven't found it since. It had a prototype of the Barcode Battler - one of only 5 in the country, I think they said. At the time, I also had a prototype (well, I still have it) and mine looked different, plus mine had the proof English manual - so I think mine muust have been THE original English prototype! As for Gamesmaster, The Game Channel (or whatever its called) purchased the rights to Series 1, but felt it was so poorly received that they won't be going for any more series. I believe there are some rips floating around the net, although I haven't got them myself. Hewson are contemplating releasing it on DVD perhaps, and there was a petition on a site that wanted to see this happen. Yeah, I'm OK for the hardware - I mean technically, if someone came up with copies but they were in U-matic or Betacam SP or whatever, I could copy that too (anyone work for Yorkshire TV? hehe). I know someone who is sending a couple of U-Matic decks my way, and I have contacts in the BBC who could probably help with any other format.
Hmm, actually seen another site that suggests it was Granada Kids. Guess I'm just going to have to find that video! (and that's not easy when you have hundreds of the damn things!!)
