Get an Elgato don't go with a Hauppauge. I used to use those and honestly Elgato makes it easier.

Everything, that can handle 720p60fps video signal through HDMI(with HDCP)/Component is fine. Brand of the capture card isn't so important in my opinion. Important is - how much money can you spend on this type of the device, because some of them are really cost a lot.

HD60 does 1080p60fps but can only accept non HDCP signals. If you have HDCP in your signal you have to strip it (which is easy if you get a certain splitter). Personally I love 1080p60fps but on PS3 its honestly hit and miss as some games you can force into 1080p but others you cant (Beyond Two Souls you can, MGS5 Phantom Pain you cannot.)

Right it's not about the brand, but Elgato 60 (with the HDCP strip) gets you the most for your buck. 60fps, the application it comes with is great, you can edit clips inside the app without having to open up vegas. It's a very user friendly device.

^I have a part time job recording gameplay videos so that's my two cents.

I must say that with the windows 10 upgrade I had, it eventually shits itself and you get stuff like this if you let it shit itself long enough (software wise inclusive of streaming tools like OBS).

If you're on windows 10, be sure to set any software associated with it to compatibility mode (win 8 works so eh go with that or 7 sp1) otherwise this can happen at random. I did a test and it seems to only do this at the 30 minute mark or something like that. After changing compatibility settings I found it no longer did this (left this idle for 10 minutes. dont be like me).

But in general the software is great, it's very simple, and quality is very nice.

Here's some footage to see how it looks (dont do composite to hdmi upscaling like I did. please never ever do this)
