I'm looking to purchase a Unity 3D license with the aim of using it for iPhone development.

Does anyone have any extensive experience with it and care to share their successes/woes?

All I know is that it is expensive to get the full package + the iphone addon. But then again (at least as far as I can tell) its royalty free and a one time purchase so you can develop a bunch of games of the one license and develop for both the iPhone and Desktop.

Seeing as the iPhone is OpenGL based its shouldn't be hard to make your own engine or use something like SIO2 (open source) or look into Torque.

iTGB is pretty awesome, and easy to use and fairly inexpensive. It does do 2D games only really though iirc.

Hmm I've looked at ITGB and its a bit heavy for me, Unity seems more like the environment I'm used to, also I want to focus more on 3D (building a FPS).

Unity is also cheaper, cost isn't really too much of an issue but if this all goes pear shaped at least I'll sleep easy knowing the investment was less than it could have been.
