Universal PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16/Turbo Duo Jail Bar Fix

Many of you know Tim Worthington and his work (NESRGB, 2600RGB, etc). Tim recently analyzed and came up with a solution for the "jail bar" issue that plagues the PC Engine family of consoles.

The short version of the fix is - all you have to do is replace two capacitors and you are golden.

I performed this mod on my Duo-R, and the bars disappeared. Previous mods have a bit of a "your mileage may vary" asterisk attached to them, but it looks like this is a definitive solution across the family of consoles and is also quite easy to perform.

I mentioned this inside another recent thread, and I didn't think the word was out yet on ASSEMbler. I know a few other guys that have done the mod on their consoles (including a TG16) and have also had success.

 

I saw this on PCFX forums last week. I am just waiting for the caps to arrive.
