I have a Motorola M1000 Docomo (A1000 in some other countries) that I want to unlock. I'm a rookie at this. I've been searching the internet, there seems to be downloads available, but all of the sites make you wonder if they're legit or not. Does anyone have a site they've used in the past? Has anyone done this and run into any problems? Right now the Docomo phone has a Docomo SIM card. After unlocking, do I just need to get the SIM card for a US carrier to be able to use the phone on that network? I have an account on Verizon with a US mobile phone. Is it possible to use this phone on that account with my US number? All I need is an unlock and a SIM card to take care of the hardware end of it?
You might run into problems on the frequency band the phone operates on - is it compatible with the USA? Also, is the phone exactly the same as the A1000? Sometimes phones look the same but contain different internals/firmware to suit the region they exist in. Usually to unlock a phone all you require is a cable (or bluetooth) and the software. The websites that offer this software are usually a bit dodgy looking, but unlocking phones is often not entirely legal (depending on your network provider's T&C)
from what I understand M1000 is a newer model than the A1000 so I don't think they are exactly the same. I got the A1000 didn't know the M1000 had wifi.. that would've been sweet to have
There are some cellphone sites out there that can help you out. Do a google search. That's how I was able to get access to my LGCE500 factory menu. I'm just looking for an SDK for the phone so that I can see if I can upload my own ringtones, graphics, and games without having to pay for them.
