Moderator Legit brieflly mentioned these in the Geist Force thread a long, long, time ago - saying he used to own the GD Roms. I'm hoping he could kindly shed more light on them as no one else seems to know anything about them? I've been following the humble Dreamcast for years and it was certainly news to me... and we've seen a number of lists of unreleased games over the years - none of which mention those titles. Perhaps he could post here and tell us his thoughts on them? Were they playable, etc? But also where they may have ended up after he sold or traded them. This is actually something I asked in another thread but this is the correct forum for this question. The other thread wasn't about unreleased games, it was about games that existed on other platforms which were due to be ported to the DC - not 'unreleased' games exclusively. I know I'm not the only person who's curious to know about these three new (well, for us...) discoveries. Argh! The topic title should read 'unreleased' - not 'unrelased' - could a mod fix that plz!
Intresting: I remember reading it and hoping to hear more about it. Thanks for shining light on the subject
A casual google search for gp500 turns up these videos on dailymotion. It is a motorcycle racer. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xnl03_sega-dreamcast-gp-500-beta_videogames This is plausibly a DC game. It looks like it came out for PC in 1999 and was probably in the works to be a PC>DC port like Test Drive Le Mans/Le Mans 24 Hours - which it graphically resembles. Shame it didn't come out, it probably would have been the best motorcycle racer on the system The sense of speed is good. I think this is a video of the pc version: for comparison http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QqwIBxrYnk edit: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/sho...0-Actua-Soccer-4-Prototype-Warhead-Unreleased! Maybe I'm reading too much into that thread and all the edits after he created it, but especially if these games were all on the same dev box, I think it's possible L was contacted by a party of interest such as the former dev box owner or IP owner, and told to refrain from discussing them. Edit #2: http://www.dcemulation.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=47278 Another old thread created by legit circa 2004 discussing the 3 prototypes. He found them as source code on a dev kit, and according to some posts in the thread, it was not possible to compile / boot them. The video I linked to on dailymotion was likely one of the videos Legit mentions he found on the dev box in the dcemu thread. Edit #3: Apparently the lead programmer who designed the 3d engine for GP500 later worked as a project leader on TD LeMans for all systems. So there is even a connection between the two http://www.torps.com/games.html
Wasn't GP500 a port from the arcade game made by Namco? Arcade Info: http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=541
Thanks for the responses, appreciated! As you say, looks like stuff found on a devbox that wasn't bootable. - Seems to be early ports from pc > dc that didn't get very far. On a more positive note - at least we can now confirm their status, as opposed to reading about them and wondering how far along they were in development?
I had the Microprose game back then, along with almost all of Microprose's Grand Prix F1 series. Terrific simulations. The DC version was most definitely a port of the PC edition. Proof? FMV Video Intro to GP 500 PC FMV Video Intro to Dreamcast beta They are identical.
