Hi everybody! Here's where i will post some of the unreleased games for the Atari Lynx. There's not a lot of cancelled/unreleased games for this system unlike the ridiculous ammount that there is for the Jaguar but i thought it would be cool to make a dedicated thread here for this subject. Enjoy!
I'm going to start this with a unreleased homebrew game that was being developed since 1997 and was featured during Jagfest '98. Laurens Simonis' TNT Terry, a unreleased Bomberman clone for the Lynx that was going to feature 6 player support via Comlynx. It's unknown why it was discontinued but if i had to guess it was due to the lack of interest from Laurens to finish it. The only guys who had the chance of playing it were Dave Homenuck and the attendees of JF '98. At least 2-3 prototype copies exist but as far as i'm aware, none of them has been dumped online. Too bad, a Bomberman-styled game for the system would've been more than welcome. The devs. behind it were Laruens and Yiri T. Kohl. Here's some links: http://home.wxs.nl/~lsimonis/lynx/tntterry/about.html http://yiri.maniac.com/ego_lynx.html Here's some screenshots from JagFest '98: And here's some artwork & sprites of the game (NOTE: The egyptian level is a mock-up). Finally, here's a YT gameplay video from one of the owners of the prototypes. It would be cool if he could dump it online at last...
Here's some scans from a 1992 Atari Lynx catalogs that talk about some games that sadly didn't get the chance to make it out of the door...Full credit to the scans goes to Classic Pac at AA BTW. Some of the unreleased games featured here are: *Cabal *Rolling Thunder¨ *Daemonsgate *Eye of the Beholder *Vindicators *The Guardians: Storm Over Doria *Heavyweight Contender *Blood & Guts Hockey and last but not least Full Court Press.
Here's some clean screenshots from AA about Atari's unreleased Geo Duel. It was going to be similar to the light cycles in Tron but the main show of the game was the extreme heavy use of the Lynx's scaling techinques. It was planned to be released in 1991 and featured Comlynx support for 4 players, but for some reason it was canned. Someone has the prototype for this but at the time of posting this, he has no wish of posting this online...yet, there's clean screenshots of the game online so, maybe there's a ROM out there? Who knows...
Here's another one and some of you have probably played it in arcades or any other version...except the Lynx. Vindicators was previewed a lot on various catalogs but i haven't found the true reason as to why the Lynx version was canned. No playable build has been found so far, only demo carts at the moment. Here's some videos: Plus, screenshots from AA. There's also no playable ROM of the game online yet.
Here's also yet another one but this time, it's a exclusive for the system. RPM Software's QuadroMania is a puzzle game with a gameplay very similar to Dr. Mario. The full story about this game can be read here (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/223829-new-atari-lynx-game-uncovered/) and here (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/227956-what-is-this/) but basically it's a finished game that was canned in 1993. While it's complete, the guy who found it (who is also a long scener of the system) is working to add more levels. This will be released soon by my friend Der Luchs this year with the blessing of the original creator so snag it when it becomes avaiable! Here's gameplay: Here's some direct-feed screenshots as well from the person who found it:
This is one that probably many of you have played on any platform, Dungeon Slayers. This is basically a port of the Atari ST game Dungeon Master. I can't recall why the cancellation but based on the screenshots (which means that somebody at AA has the ROM of this game), it captures the look of the original game faithfully.
