http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yqci9mIBW3o This could have been a competent Crash game. Of all the Crash games to be cancelled, this one looked like it had serious potential. I really like the art design in the game. It looked reminiscent to the first-gen ND Crash titles and the Japanese Crash character design of that time too, something I heartily enjoyed seeing here (I've always enjoyed the ND Crash games and their art style, so seeing that pre-production video enlightened me). And it doesn't look like it would have been too obnoxious in humor and zaniness too. I solute this unreleased game and it's developers. Talk about this game. I'm repressing now. :banghead:
Oh, great. Haven't bought any of those for years. Good choice, Activision. That art style is awesome. Not sure about the open world thing though. I like what Wolfire is doing with Overgrowth: You directly support the developers by paying everything upfront, but you get access to betas. No publisher around to do stupid stuff like the above. Unfortunately this only works with rather small teams. (Then again, how big does a game dev team have to be? Most recent games I liked came from relatively small studios.)
Anyway, Naughty Dog was the company that made Crash Bandicoot. Crash 1, 2, 3 and CTR are the best Crash games ever. Everything else, produced by other companies, don't even come close in terms of quality.
Crash died with Naughty Dog. It wasn't Crash anymore without them, it was just a bunch of things trying to look like Crash as far as I'm concerned. That's funny they needed to bother taking down a video of an unreleased game though. Maybe they still have plans for it? I don't think it looks all that great, I mean hell we don't even see any gameplay at all and people seem to be assuming it would have been good, just like what happens with lots of Sonic games. And you know how those turn out :x
