I just found out about this game about an hour ago, and being a fan of the original (everyone tells me to stay away from the second though), I started searching all over the net for info and media. Unfortunatly, all i've been able to find out was that it was planned for PS2 and Gamecube, and it might (hopefully not) be a rumor. Does anyone know anything about it, or maybe has some pics even?
I'm sure I read something very small about this in a mag I have a while back. I too am a fan of the PE series (2 is ok guys). When I say very small..something along the lines of...'and a new Parastie Eve game is being touted, provisionally titles PE Rebirth'..or something. And that was it, but it stayed in my mind as I like PE. I'll have a look when I get home. Just googled Parasite Eve rebirth and loads of hits! www.cube-europe.com/news.php?nid=3159 - 25k (although I can't check linky due to work filters)
Although not exactly on-topic, most people don't even realise that the first Parasite Eve only came about as the result of Capcom Production Studio 4 producer Shinji Mikami taking over the development of Resident Evil 2 and insisting on a complete overhaul. When original project leader Hideki Kamiya left this so-called "1.5" project, many of the original design staff quit as well, heading to SquareSoft and incorporating some of their better ideas into what eventually became Parasite Eve. I'm not sure about the exact elements recycled (as I've never actually played this game), but from comparisons read in the past it seems that the concept of body armour was just one of several that was ultimately rescued. Other ideas were salvaged by Capcom for either the third Resident Evil or its Outbreak spin-offs - especially the latter with some of its locations - and I'm sure that most of you are aware that an early attempt at a fourth installment of this series was also considered too different and made into Devil May Cry. While the Parasite Eve games aren't produced by Capcom, this company has definitely influenced their outcome. I must apologise for not being able to help with your enquiry, though I'm also hopeful that someone here will learn something from this post...
I did. When you say early attempt at a fourth in the series led to DMC..you mean an early attempt at a fourth resident evil? Cool beans. DMC is pretty ace (3 rocks) and I knew there were connections etc...but that..wow and cool..cwoowl i guess.
The first revision of Resident Evil 4 (or "3.5" as it's known by some fans) became Devil May Cry, and a later attempt at a fourth game - dubbed the "Fog" version - was completely rejected before Capcom settled on the final game concept. However, even this fell victim to some change as originally there were more references to Umbrella's involvement in its activities. We all know that the story will probably continue for at least another sequel, and in my opinion the next installment should include more background into this corporation and the "Las Plagas" sample it receives - let's just hope that Raccoon City isn't the victim for yet another contamination, though!
Alright, based on what i've gathered so far Paraseite Eve: Rebirth was original posted on Square-Enix's official site previous to E3 2003 as part of their lineup. koroshi-import.com (now dead) from their posted the news which was then taken by cube-europe.com at which point the news became wide-spread. Come that e3 though the game was absent. This is where things start getting a little tricky though, as the news about what the game actualy was is split. One version of the story states that it is a remake (taken from themagicbox.com): "Square Enix announced their first project for PlayStation 2 and GameCube called Parasite Eve: Rebirth, a remake of the survival horror RPG for PlayStation. The game will feature new episodes, an enhanced combat system, and other new elements to greatly extend the replay value of the game. Parasite Eve: Rebirth is scheduled for release by the end of 2003 in Japan" The other version of the story states it was a new game (taken from Nintendojo.com): "The title will be called Parasite Eve: Rebirth which is to be developed and published by Square Enix. It is set to hit the market by the end of 2003 on both the PS2 and GameCube formats in Japan"..."Rebirth will be an all new episode offering an "Innovating combat system, digitalized voices, and an astounding technical realisation."" "It has also been announced that the title will be brought to the US and European markets in the year 2004."
Lets keep after this guys. I've been trying to find new info on this game for some time now. God I love that first PE.
Oh man, Parasite Eve. The gf wanted that game a lot so I got her it for Christmas, and it ended up with me borrowing it and beating it lol. It is sooo good, everythings just really cool in it, the movies, the music (especially) and the storyline. She noticed I liked it so much she got me the 2nd one. It's alright, but you sort of spend most of your time in one place and it's short...I got to the end of it but didnt bother beating it because it was getting so frusterating.... The other day I was wondering if they were ever going to make another Parasite Eve and I found this thread! Why didnt it come outtttttttttttttttttttttttttt?
Oh dude, it's totally worth it. When I got her her copy it was 10$ and had everything but the sampler disc. (it was a spur of the moment buy, I wouldn't have got it if it didn't have the disc) I wish I could find the soundtrack, but I bet it costs a lot.
PE was actually pretty good. I used to have that one, I can't recall who borrowed it. You did have to level up your weapons and truly do everything before getting to the end or the optional dungeon, though, because you'd be screwed on the final battle, otherwise. Phrequency is right, though; The soundtrack on the first one was super. If you want to hear it, there's PSF files of it, somewhere, that can be played in Winamp, and that sound exactly like the actual game. PE2... the control was icky, and I seem to recall something about coca-cola marketing. Thing is, they gave this game the Resident Evil style controls... and that just killed it. It does look and sound cool, but it's definitely not as good as the first one. The first one had a RE influence (explained now) - but the second one felt like a bad clone.
