I won't bother with an intro to the A'can since most should be aware of what it is. For those that aren't just search this forum. I was playing Son of Evil(an RPG) today and found a easter egg area where you get to walk around the offices of Funtech Entertainment. Interestingly, there were little offices you could go into that had the staff of separate game projects in them. There were four different games, but C.U.G appears out to be the only one that went on to be released. Each game has several preview shots you can view, plus one music track from the games play while you're viewing them. Since I have no recording equipment I unfortunately couldn't record the music, but I did take screenshots, though you'll have to settle for my shitty cellphone. First is a game called 恐龍戰記(Unofficial translation: Dinosaur Wars). One of the staff you talk to in game says it's a strategy game, which is expected I guess. Three preview shots were shown. Game's logo. Almost feels familiar...maybe it's just me? Some dinosaurs head. Shot of presumably an in-game battle. Next title is called 都市大逃亡(Unofficial translation: City Escape). It looks like it could have been some short of fireman simulator or something. Doesn't look too interesting, and unfortunately there was only one screenshot provided: Finally, a game titled 急鬥出擊(Unofficial(and literal) translation: Quick Fighting Attack). The one guy in the room of this game says it's a puzzle game. It doesn't appear much like one in any sense by the shots though. The main character looks like a cross between Shin Chan and that fat kid mascot that you see holding a donut, whatever his name is  This last shot looks pretty neat IMO. I wish there was more info on these titles. It's probably unlikely there's any chance that they were released, just very scarcely throughout Taiwan ala Rebel Star.
Cool ive never herd of this console before i had a look on wikipedia i see their where not many games released for it .dose this machine have all original games for it. the last shot dose look cool
I'm not familiar with the intricacies of Chinese, but perhaps that last game is a puzzle game in the sense that....say...Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island or the like are puzzle games (which would be really cool). Shame that these will likely never turn up, though, short of finding and harassing former Funtech employees (which, if I recall, someone has done already). Thanks for the info. That sounds like a really cool easter egg. Makes me want to hunt down a controller/game for my A'Can.
Got some more info. It appears that tomsoft, who might be best known to the general community as the creator of the tomsoft dev kit for Gensis, was the project leader for another canceled game called 鳥籠院, which roughly would translate to Birdcage Yard or something to that effect. It was never finished unfortunately. What's more, supposedly there were around 50 games for the A'can. Wish I had more info, or a better source. I'm going to try to find as much more as I can. In the meantime, I'm hoping there's some sort of chance that like Rebel Star, there's actually more out there that is just unfound as of yet. Let's have some more love for this system guys!
Yet ANOTHER unreleased title found. Title only again. Listed in the games column on the right is 地心歷險(Journey to the Center of the Earth I think). This magazine is listed as a reference on the Chinese A'can Wiki page. Odd how wiki decided to omit the game title though, since even if it went unreleased it's still part of the consoles history. Apparently there's also a little side story manga relating to the world of Son of Evil in this thing. Unfortunately the guy who posted this scan on the forum I found appears to never have bothered scanning more of the magazine besides this cover. I'll try to get more of this!
I found a guy who claimed he was going to scan it back in October on another forum. Unfortunately the stupid place has a rank system, and I'm stuck at novice. Not allowed to PM people unless I move up another grade, and I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how you do that, their whole system is screwy. But I'm hoping I can get into contact with him soon, he should still be able to provide the scans if someone reminds him! My guess for the comparasion thing they're just gonna either show off specs, or compare the game titles to that of other systems. I'm dying to see what this Journey to the Center of the Earth game is. And the Son of Evil manga
Really interesting. That reminds me of Terranigma where you can visit the developer house in Neo Tokio and there one of the programmers tell you he is working on Illusion of Gaia 2.
Good news, the magazine has been fully scanned now. You can get it here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FJ94QNB2 50% and going right now. Hopefully we've got some unreleased shots in here Edit: Got a list of games that were never released: 地心歷險(Journey to the Center of the Earth) A-RPG 台軟科技(Tai Ruan Technology) 貓球防衛隊(Cat Ball Defense Team) STG 鉅崴科技(AV artisan) 鳥籠院(Birdcage Yard) ACT 敦煌科技(Funtech) 雷霆機動隊(Lightning Mobile Unit) STG 弘煜科技專業(Fun Yours Entertainment) 恐龍戰記 SLG 敦煌科技股份(Funtech) 阿Q連環炮(A Q Lian Huan Pao) ETC 全崴資訊股份(C&E) 暴走族之戀(Romance of Bōsōzoku) SPG 敦煌科技股份(Funtech) 王八妹(Woman Guerrillero) STG 鉅崴科技(AV artisan) 英 雄戰記(Hero Saga) RPG 漢堂國際資訊(Dyansty International Information Co.) 快樂動物園(Happy Zoo) ETC 石將電腦(Stone General Computer) 惡魔島(Demon Island) ACT 傑克豆資訊(Jackbean Information Co.?)
A Q Lian Huan Pao was released on MegaDrive http://www.guardiana.net/MDG-Database/Mega%20Drive/A%20Q%20Lián%20Huán%20Pà o/#v3385. Maybe they switched to MegaDrive after the fail of the Acan, I don't know the release date.
Yeah, I noticed that. Wondering myself which version came first. There's also that Taiwanese Baseball game(which was actually released), that one also is on the Genesis, and like A Q Lian Huan Pao is also from C&E. Another game that was ported is that Africa Monopoly 2 game, which is a port of a DOS game, though not C&E. Sucks they wanted to just rerelease shitty games that weren't fun at all. There's a lot the magazine covers I don't know where to start, too much to translate. Points of interest include mention that they were in discussions with a Japanese company for letting them produce games, plus apparently some American company was signed up for something. I'll have to try to translate the interesting points if it doesn't feel like too much work.
