I remember one level that had reduced gravity, but it all still pulled toward one common direction. Whereas SS could do stuff similar to Super Mario Galaxy. Am I missing something? edit: Seems the room I was thinking of was in SS: Second Encounter, not the first one. Quake had underwater fights too. Or, if you want underwater vehicles, there's the 'Malice' Quake TC, I don't know when exactly that came out tho.
Was Perfect Dark the first console FPS with dual analog support? You had the option to use controller 1 and controller 2 instead of using analog and c-buttons for movement and strafe.
You could do that in Golden Eye, but it was an hidden mod I believe. [EDIT] Not hidden in the end, but hard to find in the menus nobody ever really explore.
Where abouts? This would be a new way to play Goldeneye for me. So would that make Goldeneye the first console FPS with dual analog support?
AFAIK it's in the menus where you can choose the control schemes: http://goldeneye.wikia.com/wiki/Control_style
Wow, I never found these! Domino looks like the perfect layout. Has anyone here ever created a custom dual controller for the N64 specifically for these setups? I might have to take out a hacksaw and get some resin some day if I ever get the chance.
On the topic of the Goldeneye dual analog support. Hook up both controllers, hit start during the game, hit right and change your control style. 1.1 through 1.4 are one controller layouts, 2.1 through 2.4 are dual analog layouts. Its about the only way I was ever able to play goldeneye once i learned about it, lol. Its not uncommon for people to not know about. I have a few friends that have played goldeneye on and off since it came out that just recently learned about it. Thats such an amazing controller mod.... would love to try some Goldeneye and Perfect Dark with it. And yes.... 2.3 Domino is the perfect layout
That controller is sick. Any way those would be for sale somewhere? Or do we just have to make them on our own?
Eradicator had a fake DOS computer interface. Things like DIR, CD, etc all worked iirc. I wanted to see if DELTREE C: worked but I was scared it was an actual passthrough to my actual computer LOL
So you're telling us you're a fan then, right? The best part would be if the 'troller had 2 Z buttons and you could use the left and right to fire your left and right weapon respectively.
How many games use two controllers like that? The only other one I can think of is Star Wars Episode 1 Racer.
Not only is it usable, but it would be BY FAR the best way of playing Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. It doesnt quite work like that, but i imagine it would have 2 Z buttons. Going by the 2.3 domino setup, left Z brings up the aiming reticule and right Z fires your weapons. That is just an educated guess, as i have never actually seen the controller, let alone used it.
I don't know if that's a Photoshoped fake, or someone genuinely made it (though I have seen the picture before), but it does exist, then it's not official, so some talented person made it. It would be fun to try it, but of course only one fire button would work (or both would work, but they'd both be seen as the same fire button by the N64). As a huge fan of the N64 (it's my favourite console), I have to agree with you - I'm no fan of the official N64 controller. It really polarizes fans, with many users saying it's the best, or at least one of the best, joypads ever, and and many other users hating it. Fortunately, I managed to find a *fantastic* third party joypad, the Makopad 64, which (to me) is immeasurably better than the official joypad. Not only is it much better laid out than the three pronged official joypad (you can use all of the controls without moving your hands, as you can with every non-N64 joypad I've ever seen, but not the official N64 joypad), but it's much longer lasting - the analogue stick of the official pads becomes lose after a a couple of years because the stick's shaft is made of plastic, whereas the Makopad's shaft is metal and so doesn't wear away - I've had this Makop 64 for about fifteen years now, and I've *hammered* it, what with Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Super Smash Bros. etc, and it's as responsive now as it was when I first used it. I really recommend this to any N64 user. Edit: I meant to say, the fact that Goldeneye and Perfect Dark can use two joypads (and therefore two analogue controls) for each player shows again how much attention and innovation Rare put into their games. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark introduced or improved so many features that even today the majority of games don't bother with.
If you look, that one in the pic is actually 2 controllers (has 2 wires coming from it), though one controller has no action buttons and the other has no d-pad. I've been looking for one of those, or the Superpad for the N64. I've never liked the stock N64 pad, even when I first saw it, I was like "I don't have three hands" (it was 1996, so the joke wasn't old yet).
I've never used a Mako Pad, but how does it compare to the GCN's? One time I came across someone trying to make the GCN controller work on an N64 which would be pretty sweet (although I'd prefer another another controller if I had the choice). I don't think the person succeeded though.
But I kinda wish it did haha. Make you feel like a Chow-Yun Fat badass. Then again IIRC there really isn't too many times in single player where you dual wield. I actually gave the dual controller scheme a try yesterday. Very cool, but its taking me a little getting used to. Also, what was the first FPS to let you slow down time? I'm thinking F.E.A.R., but that just seems too late.
