Not sure what's wrong with image embedding, just go to the links for pics i guess. If a mod can embed the pics, please put them in a spoiler. Xenon Alpha G5 (2004) This is what started it all. Basically the PC version of what would later be the Xbox 360. Can't read Xex1 or Xex2 files. https://imgur.com/a/ZqL5b XeDK Xenon motherboards Last three digits of the MS part number are different on every XeDK There was two versions of the XeDK: Beta 1 - Black Sidecar, Black shell, & prototype faceplate. Only Xbox 360 that can't read Xex2 files Only reads Xex1 https://imgur.com/a/Zlp88 Beta 2 - Darker case & normal USB flap. These were closer to the final design. Internal Beta 2's were white stress consoles with a white HDD. Can read Xex2 files https://imgur.com/a/eCK8n Phat XDK's Dev Kit- Grey case, Light gray sidecar Test Kit- White sidecar, retail case Xenon, Zephyr & Jasper mobos only https://imgur.com/a/RRLnQ Stress Kit (Personal favorite console) Full XDK without sidecar, has stress wires, & retail case. These were made to stress a new motherboard revision before putting them into the retail production line. Spoiler: Why these are my favorite kits They are full devkits without a sidecar, you don't really need a sidecar at all as it's only for DVD emulation. If you want to play retail games, you can simply shadowboot. These are simple and straight to the point! Good starter kits. All Mobos https://imgur.com/a/3SV64 xna XDK ~Prototypes~ Jasper Advanced Development Kit (JADK) was probably the internal name for the early XNA's. (Based on @Stipo360 and another guy's research (forgot your name) It started with the early internal engineering stress samples that were used to test the 1024 MB of ram. Had a DIP switch near the CPU JTAG port. Every JADK would have 1024 MB of ram from then on. https://imgur.com/a/Cr9Sn Version 1 - Gigabit Ethernet Stress Kit Inverted ROL, Gigabit ethernet board mounted on HDD shell, stress cables https://imgur.com/a/lfJjz Version 2 - JADK with new sidecar design Inverted ROL, new sidecar design with gigabit ethernet port. https://imgur.com/a/G5uJ9 Version 3 - JADK with "tribal" sidecar Inverted ROL, XNA themed blue chrome sidecar, gigabit ethernet port on sidecar. https://imgur.com/a/E9BCQ Version 4 - GDC 2009 XNA Expo Kits Proper Blue ROL, New Xshell themed deep purple shell, Blue chrome DVD bezel + eject button, XNA branded faceplate, Blue chrome XNA themed sidecar. Has gigabit ethernet but was taped off at GDC to show devs what they would be getting later on. Spoiler: Extreme porn! https://imgur.com/a/HX1CR ALL XNA KITS AFTER THIS DID NOT HAVE THE GIGABIT BOARD. Strangely though, the sidecar chassis had the cutout and risers for it. XNA Devkits ~Final~ Blue chrome sidecar, DVD bezel, and Eject button with XNA case. Blue ROL Gigabit ethernet was removed from final kits and tribal kits. https://imgur.com/a/kDQxh ~Tribal~ Same as a Final XNA but has a branded sidecar. Tribal kits were sent to developers in 2012 (when they were being repurposed) Microsoft would remove any branded faceplates and slapped on a standard XNA unbranded faceplate instead, but would still give devs the branded sidecar. Tribal kits are actually more common than GDC 2009 Expo kits, but are less common and more sought after than Finals. Here's a video showcasing a clean tribal kit: XNA Test kits Final - Green chrome sidecar, eject button, and DVD bezel. Standard XNA shell Tribal - Same as final XNA Test kit but has a branded sidecar Expo(?) - Branded sidecar and faceplate https://imgur.com/a/SoV1c Slim XDK's ~Early Prototypes, engineering samples, and stress kits~ https://imgur.com/a/rI2Yk ~Winchester stress kit~ https://imgur.com/a/9wbYR Slim Final XDK/Test kit Matte black shell with black sidecar. Unlike phats, Slims are either DEV or TEST depending if a sidecar is attached or not. DEV when a sidecar is attached TEST when sidecar is not present (you can change recint.ini so that it's a DEV even without a sidecar on the kit) https://imgur.com/a/9HriT For further documentation, see Lehvak's thread Credits to HombrewBunny for most of the basic information.
Beta 2 Xenons (which we call 008) were still black, however the paint was darker and they had the finalized USB door. Only the internal beta kits were white (can be 005-008) - There's still a lot of room to add to the Xenon's development in here, such as the 009 kit. Bunny's information on 7s is now highly outdated, but i suppose it's a good base.
Thanks, i'll update the info on the XeDK's. Feel free to share info based off the part number (005, 007, etc) and if it's beta 2 or 1. Didn't have time to add images sadly.
I noted in my thread using the beta 1, 2, and 3 id system is flawed. I've recently updated my xna history post. I'm not able to edit the one I posted on this site, because of the account issue. So this one: https://www.obscuregamers.com/threads/xna-kit-history.22105/#post-174903 is the most up to date.
I was going to credit the owners of the XDK's in the pictures i used but haven't had the time to do so.
