Just curious if it's possible take the 360 HD-DVD drive and use it to replace the DVD drive in the 360 itself... It seems like Microsoft will be making the 360 with this drive internal eventually, so it's probably compatible (pending a firmware update or something).
it seems that microsoft will be what? since when? "it's all a matter of choice" is where I was last left off by MS concerning the subject of HD-DVD. They wouldn't imo make it a "mandatory" part of the console. Also, if you open the HD-DVD drive, you will notice that it has the same type of connector laptop drives use, whereas the internal drive uses a different connection standard.
I had always heard that they were going to eventually release the 360 with the HD drive built internally. Maybe that's no longer in their plans, not sure... I haven't really followed the reports too closely. Interesting about the connectors on the drive though, I figured they'd both be normal IDE connectors or something...
I also hear that the CIA will be using the 360 to power a time machine to go back in history and "erase" certain prominent people from our time line to help shift the worlds power to the illuminati. But not until Microsoft releases one with a HDMI connector. Seriously, there's been all sorts of speculation about the 360 since even before it was released (I recall back when the viral flash website of the bonsai tree was made. A lot of people somehow were able to draw out of this, among many things, that the 360 would have Blu-ray installed despite MS's prominent stance on HDDVD). To answer your question, yes, you can internalize the HDDVD player by swapping it with the the regular DVD drive (and a bit of rewiring). You loose the ability to play 360 games (you can still play arcade games) since you no longer have a dvd player, but this effectivly turns your 360 into a HD media center sans any unsightly external drives. If microsoft *does* release the 360 with internalized hddvd (I don't see this happening anytime soon, seriously) then the internalized drives will be sata like the current dvd drive, rather than ide like the current hddvd drive. Any firmware updates that would alter the ability of the sata bus to recognize internal hddvd drives would probably not affect the externals hddvd drives USB interface. The only reason MS would change this is for the specific reason of internalizing the current external hddvd drives, which involves opening up the cases and tinkering around, something that MS most definatly does not support.
I've heard more rumors and supposed "insider information" about the 360 than all three playstations combined. BTW, I believe Saddam ordered 200 PS2's. But I hear he traded them for gamecubes since they were easier to carry.
i think some of the ps2 might have been broke since saddam didnt have much luck with his rockets when switch to the news
I beleive that the standard drive and the HD drive are both using the same connector which would SATA. IDE is kinda dead anymore, just cant cut it in speed.
Xbox 360 drive connectors: hard drive = sata + power (proprietary?) hd-dvd = ide + power (aka mini-ide, used in laptops and 2.5" PATA HD's) Very correct. However if MS were to ever integrate HD drives, they would need to use sata ones since there is no pata in the 360.
Well yeah, although I'm suprised that Microsoft haven't switched from SATA already. They must like piracy. smf
what's wrong with SATA vs PATA, and why do u relate it to piracy? because it's an established standard? Even the cube's drive uses an IDE-like interface
If I were to guess, I think he's referring to MS switching *from* sata to something else more proprietary since the current sata dvd drives are easily flashable to play "backups".
