For anyone who hasn't seen the list of names Go here http://sports.ign.com/articles/841/841448p1.html My feelings? Roger Rocket Clemens was my childhood hero. He was the only guy I came to see as a young kid when I lived in Toronto. Now those memories feel tainted! The thing that hurts me the most, is the fact that you've got young guys who not only look up to these guys, but play their hearts out to get a spot among them. What about the guys playing on farm teams. Had not so many players being using steriods, maybe we would have gotten the next Babe Ruth or Cal Ripken Jr . Instead we got a bunch of druggie players. What about the AAA ball player who gets his dreams shattered because he can't throw or hit in the way beyond what a man should. What about the money being wasted on these players that could go to charity, a bigger ball park, or most importantly players who actually deserve it. Its sad that I have to think of baseball as a tainted sport. Most of my heroes in the sport have been long retired or even dead.
I'm not much of a baseball fan anymore. Selig canceling the World Series in '94 would have killed it for me if the Mariner's hadn't done so well in '95. They got me back into baseball. But nowadays, I'm a casual fan... It's a shame what's happened to the league. Everyone is obsessed with the long ball these days... I really wish Griffey would have stayed healthy and broken the homerun record, instead of some criminal.
With tickets too expensive to buy, games you can't get without paying a ton of cash and "stars" juicing their way to fame, it leaves a stale taste. Watch AA baseball and have more fun.
Don't give a shit really. While I see the point that using steriods to out perform players that don't as being unfair, I don't watch or follow baseball anymore. I will watch if they (my city's team) get into the Post Season or if nothing else is on. But I don't understand looking up to players or anything like that. They are all highly paid for playing a child's game. They don't deserve much sympathy or much thought really. It's such a shame so much attension is focused on Baseball when more important things need the attension like energy problems, waste and recycling, etc. But no, lets focus on baseball...
I'm really enjoying the minor league baseball in my home town. Steriods are just another scandal - baseball players have been doing all kinds of stuff to improve their throw etc over the last few decades. Money taints all sports in the end.
