My pc has died since friday. I m using a PS3 to type this, using solely a gamepad.

My new pc will be home in a few hours but I have no way to download the 5day old 64bit win7 release candidate.

Could someone please download the latest 64bit release candidate + a valid product key so I may save a lot of trouble and time? please pm me the key and/or link to the download.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you in advance.

You can use Windows 7 RC 1 up to 30 Days before registration. That may help a little.

You should be able to get a key by registering in the Windows 7 testing program, if you've already done it for the beta you can do it again to get the key, however you'll have to use Internet Explorer in the process, it doesn't work in any other browsers.

About the link, the quickest way is through the official Win7 site, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx.

Barc0de you should have installed Linux on your PS3 (as well as use a USB keyboard and Mouse), then you would have had a decent internet connection and could have downloaded what you want and probably made a bootable device to get your PC running so you could reinstall Windows.

I would like to thank all of you for your support, especially Twimfy for his PM.

@Jamtex: I was underway to install PS3 linux a loong time ago, before it became apparent how crippled Linux is on the PS3, allowing only the allocation of 10GB to either OS. 256 MB o'RAM didn't seem a good alternative to a PC at the time either.

I have currently installed my SP1 XP distribution and will be managing the main HDD with Partition Magic, so I may copy all my IDE drives' content to the SATA drive (damn them for having only a single IDE port on the mobo!).

After re-partitioning, I will download win7, courtesy of Twimfy, burn with Imgburn and proceed to formatting the first partition and installing the new OS.

It's a pain in the ass, but PCs have always been so, so wish me luck!

Thanks again, I will proceed to post impressions and/or problems if any arise when I have installed the new OS.

over and out for now folks

It's not going to replace your PC as an all in one PC, however it's a nice an handy alternative as with Linux you can do basic things like better internet browsing, run open office and do some work, attach a printer to it, run emulators and games, watch movies on it. The 10gb limit (on either end) is a pain but USB hard drives are cheap and I store a lot of things that I might use on each machine on that.

You can also attach a CD burner to it (UBS) and burn iso files... so you could have downloaded Windows 7, burnt it and have had your PC up and running. ;)

There's a video of some guy mounting to an NIS share and playing MKV movies on his PS3. Seems good enough to me...especially in the situation you're in now. Of course, I have like 5 computers, so would have to be having a terrible day to be in the boat you're in.

You can also dump the Windows 7 install files onto a USB thumb drive and boot/install it from there.

That is if your motherboard supports booting from USB. Might be easier if you don't have a way to burn the DVD.

And, as others have said before, the best way to download it is direct from Microsoft. I got the x86 and x64 releases yesterday maxing out my connection. Granted, its only 3mb down, but still :p

    Update:

I m on 7. The eye candy is getting a bit tiresome for my minimalistic tastes, but I like some of the new functionality - I don't understand why they ve fucked up the device manager so much though.

Furthermore, Win7 doesn't like my SoundBlaster Live! 5.1, albeit old, it's a good piece of kit I tell you! I m now utilizing the motherboard's so-called Hi Quality or something, audio.

I have yet to run any games, and I just might, to see what the HD8450 can do, out of curiosity.

I too just got onto Windows 7, and my 845G wasnt supported for the same reason...

Go into compatibility mode with the driver installer and it will install the driver for your audio card. thats how I got my 845G driver to work!

As for the eye candy... you are not alone >_< ( im use to my minimalists linux setups... so its really a tad bit too much for me )

    Hope my advice helps though!

    Thanks for Everything,
    PSPdemon

certainly does, where does one find this "compatibility mode"? I feel quite lost in the system, if you know what I mean.

Also, there's a sort of hardware rating to tell you you're not good enough or something. Amazing! another reason to spend money =p

sort of - the "classic" theme contained looks too blocky to be a persuading win2K imitation, but it gets the job done without too much fuss. I ll stick to the aero theme for a couple of weeks and if it's still too distracting, I m going back to basic looks - although some of the mouse-based movements are fun to use - eg, jolt a window to make everything but for the window minimize.

I also ran one of the few games that interest me on the PC - Trackmania. The performance is smooth, clocking at 45fps with everything on high, and some 4x AA (Although I couldn't care less about AA on a 22' monitor when running at its native resolution, the gameplay is really fast and details are really apparent to by standers more than the gamer himself)

Don't bother going to compatibility mode, it won't work. Windows 7 and Vista have known troubles with SB Live! series (the card is detected and gets installed properly, but the sound gets extremely distorted and loud) and Creative hasn't released new drivers to get the troubles fixed.

I heard of many alternative drivers and supposed solutions but I've tried about anything I found in the intertubes without any results.
However, if you come with some solution please let me know, I'd really like to put my Live 5.1 to work too :020:

That's weird, I have the exact same model and it got detected and installed automatically.

Try to download the Vista drivers from Creative website and install them, maybe that will help Windows to find the card and install the appropiate drivers for it.

I guess waiting will be the only solution, at least my SB Live drivers got updated 2 times since I installed Win7 beta, which means they're probably working on them right now.

    grrr...

    Now I have a problem with Windows 7. -_-

Everything is working fine so far except the cooling.... None of the fans run o_O!

Right click on the launcher ( or installer ), and go to Properties->Compatibility->and check the "Run this program in compatibility mode" for XP SP3 or Vista ( although ive had good luck getting my stuff working under xp compat )

But it seems like it wont help according to z_killemall, but I guess if you have nothing to loose persay then I'd say go for it :p

    Thanks for Everything,
    PSPdemon

Anyone experience a problem like this? or know of a solution off hand?
