That's the reason I said cost to company. One hour of labor at a GM plant today might cost GM about $75 if you figure the payment to the person, plus the benefits for that person, plus the cost of paying every retiree sitting on their ass at home for that hour and the cost of the retiree's benefits. GM is paying thousands upon thousands of retired workers pensions to sit at home, while they still have to pay their current workers. I am saying that their labor cost is that high because they must factor that in. While I am no expert on General Motors, and maybe there is a plant somewhere in the country that pays $75/hr. I worked for a GM (Delphi) plant in the past and there are plenty of people that are both retired and still work there and none of them are making anywhere near the $75/hour that you read about, so I was trying to figure out how someone could have come to that figure.
