I have a US region Nights game that runs on my US system as well as my Japanese one. No other US games run on the Japanese Saturn, and it plays Japanese games perfectly fine. The only reason for this that I can think of is that the CD drive actually came from a US Saturn, but then why doesn't it play other US Saturn games? I can't remember if it played the US Nights CD before I transplanted the drive, but I believe it did. Any ideas?
If the Japanese Saturn played the game before you replaced the drive with an US one then it must be the game itself that would be... region free??? Nice find.
I remember reading that NiGHTS is region free (US Version). The PAL Version of Virtua Racing is also region free. That works on my Japanese Saturn just fine. Yakumo
Nights is not region free. Just check the country codes in the header: Nights USA: JTU Christmas nights USA: UJT So both must work on US and JPN saturn. The European version only have the E country code. How to know the country codes of your saturn cds ? 1) just use SRP: http://madroms.free.fr/#SRP 2) or browse my database here: http://madroms.free.fr/db/db.php (PHP) or http://madroms.free.fr/db/saturn_complete_database.htm (HTML) For example, looking for nights: http://madroms.free.fr/db/db.php?titlewith=nights and then click on each link to check the Country Codes on the General Information. J: Japan T: Asian NTSC U: North America (USA) B: Central/South America (NTSC) K: Korea A: East Asia (PAL) E: Europe L: Central/South America (PAL) Only J, U and E are useful. All the versions of Virtua Racing are region free. The European and Japan versions are identical (same data).
