Recently it has occured to me just how great the PS2 is for classic compilation discs of older formats. Here is what I have found so far, please feel free to add to it. I am also, where possible adding PS3 backwards compatibility status (for 80GB model) and an Amazon store link. Note, this is for US NTSC PlayStation 2 titles at the moment. Perhaps it can extend to PAL and Japanese later: Activision Anthology - Full compatibility Art of Fighting Anthology (SNK)(Neogeo) - Full Compatibility Atari Anthology (2600 & Arcade) - Full Compatibility Burnout Anthology (EA)(PS2) - Partial Compatibility Call Of Duty Legacy (PS2) - Full Compatibility (after v2.30 firmware) Capcom Classics Collection 1 (CPS1) - Full Compatibility Capcom Classics Collection 2 (CPS1) - Full Compatibility Crash Bandicoot Action Pack (Vivendi)(PS2) - Unknown. i have kof 2000/2001 kof 2002/2003 world heroes anthology snk arcade collection art of fighting anthology and ff battle collection and i have to say that the ports are wonderfully made and have 50/60hz options, and that is a big plus in pal countries...
It would appear Sony have removed the PS2 compatibility list from the European site, and have replaced it with this rather uninformative page instead. :banghead:
Gradius III & IV (Arcade) and the GTA Collection (San Andreas, Vice City, III) should also be mentioned.
GOH: It's a collection of 3 games. Thanks Ave, I added your games to the list. Added Dragonball Z Trilogy and Hitman Trilogy Added Crash Bandicoot Action Pack and Guitar Hero 1 & 2
"* Tekken 5 has conversions of Tekken 1, 2 & 3." I had no fucking clue! Are they the same as PS1 or just arcade ports? Can you count DMC2 as a full game? lol. I didn't like the Street Fighter Alpha anthology thing...it was neat but no world tour mode pissed me off. MGS Essentials kicks ass though. Some of these are on Xbox and Gamecube as well, right?
Yes, some are on XBox, GC and Wii. The games on Tekken 5 are arcade conversions, not the PS1 versions. Tekken 3 is System 12 version, which is far superior to the PS1 port Just found out Europe got Call of Duty Triple Pack, but since it is not US it won't be on the list. Worth mentioning here though.
I doubt there's anything interesting, but just in case: http://www.racketboy.com/retro-library/ps2.htm There's at least one Japanese title on it (Sega Ages 2500) should you start on that list ;-) Were there any games on PS2 that had hidden games in them? Like, say, Death Tank hidden in PowerSlave on Saturn or Pitfall hidden in The Mayan Adventure on SNES?
this is an awesome list so far. there's quite a few i didn't know were available and would love to pick up.
