Does a USA PC release of Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut exist? Know where to find this? Its rarity and price? Or even serious conclusive evidence of its existence? It's rumored to have appeared here in a limited amount. I've also seen plausible looking front box art. But you know how photoshop and release databases are. Lack of back art or disc pictures is a concern too, as well as its handful of apparent front art images tending to be low-res stock photos or found on pirate sites... Just sating curiosity. The presumably near identical European editions are easy as heck to get if I became interested enough.:cur_sonic:
"Unless it was created"? What does that mean? Anyway, I don't think it's necessarily good or fair that PC games usually aren't worth much, but that's just the way it is.
I mean I'm not really yet convinced a US release happened. Still too vague at this point. Edit: fixed topic title for clarity.
Well, if it exists, who cares about the "value", if you like Sonic and collect the games, the whole fun is finding something you thought didn't exist, and which is rare/difficult to find. Is the Euro box a dvd or big cardboard box btw? I can tell you there are a lot of releases not listed on the web (gamefaqs, mobygames, etc), so don't give up if you have serious evidence, you will eventually find a copy, or even just a proper pic of the item which will confirm its existence.
I saw a boxed copy in a Gamestop about 5 years ago - it was in a big cardboard box, not a jewel case. I remember being a bit surprised to see that it had been released on PC. I didn't buy it though. This Amazon listing shows depicts the box art with the ESRB logo on it, and shows Activision as publisher: http://www.amazon.com/Sega-Sonic-DX-PC/dp/B00064XR5U It looks pretty much like the box I remember. I looked at the ESRB rating database and sure enough, they have a listing for SAX on PC from Activision Value. Interestingly enough, they also list a Sega published version as well. I guess you could always contact the Amazon seller and ask for confirmation it's a US version and not an import.
I could swear I've played a demo version of this but it could very well have been a non-DX version. Not like I took the time to ogle the title screen ya know?
Try asking on the Sonic Retro boards. Their wiki states a US release and they wouldn't let that info go up there without proof.
I suspect that some of the copies on Ebay are the USA versions, but it seems that most sellers just use stock photos without paying attention to region. Anyway, it definitely was released here. I remember the local gamestop here had a few copies on display back then.
