Hi, Does anybody have those games included in the USBs meant for Arcades that used the PS3 as an arcade board? On this YouTube video we can see the directory of the install (at 7:25) the directory is: /dev_hdd0/game/SCEEXE000/ARCDIR/INSTALL.PKG This is the PS3 model that I've seen the least talk about, it sometimes pops up on eBay but most are YLOD-fried dead boards, I'd love to have a go at the files inside the .pkg, EBOOT is probably fakesigned (.fself) or retail signed.
GECR (GEX, both are fine to use) are specifically designed to be used as arcade machines. The issue is these machines can be really picky. The dongle is used to check the data on the system and in some cases ensure it boots at all. And yes these are fself eboots from what I've looked at and been told. There is one game that is floating around and it's Tekken 6, but you'd need the actual system and arcade accessories (like control input) and a recreated dongle to make it work. While we CAN set a DECR to arcade mode we still have other issues to get around depending on the hardware as some of these machines have some extra things in em.
I wonder where were they made, SONY probably just got some boards off the retail production line and made a custom kernel for arcades, I've also read that they need activation every thousand plays or it will stop working (Account Error), I also wonder if the can connect to PSN at all, I'm aware they don't even have BT/WiFi boards at all but I think they do have a LAN in, kind of weird the denomination these got, GECR, "ECR" is mostly reserved for DEH kernels. Edit: GECR Board: http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/File:Arcade_-_Motherboard_Detail_pic2.jpg CECHE Board: http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/File:COK-002_TOP.JPG GECR-1100 Board is COK-002 which is from a CECHE Console, does this mean that arcade boards actually have PS2 Support? Is it enabled?
It's disabled at the vsh level, you could force it to run ps2 titles with a cfw, but why would you? Also system369 boards have no ps2 hardware at all. I could play arcade games fine on my DECR-1000 or even a retail only by patching a few checks, but I would need an UJS board from a system357 or 369 to control anything. P.S. I made that tekken 6 dump. I also created the tools that decrypt the arcade HDDs on PC and it was made available on the psdevwiki. I didn't care/bother about it next, I was mostly intrigued by the games structure.
Glad to see that CEX can play these arcade games (Albeit with a CFW right?), Are there CFW's for GECR Target Types? I'm assuming it's easier to just convert to CEX and install CEX CFW that way, although I wouldn't go through that much trouble to get a GECR to play PS2 games as it becomes less unique. That is probably one way to dump the EID root key to decrypt the HDD. Yep, you were my first candidate when I asked about the Tekken 6 dump, I am also very intrigued about the structure, Thanks so much for all this info. I'm guessing this was also you:
no , CEX can not do GECR, like CEX can not do real DEX only DECR can set boot Arcade mode if you own DECR, try switch to Arcade mode check it on TM log, you will know what up btw, will like this check USB when power on DECR: and it will auto load config file in HDD to fix network and Display output when start up SCEEXE000 , PS3AIO will need USB link to USJPCB
@mathieulh can help you with that, Thanks for your initiative to share! Hardly anyone does that these days.
