I'm going to pick up an Xbox 360 arcade from ebay for cheap. Of course it doesn't come with a HDD and seeing as I'm on a budget I don't want to go and buy one. However I have tons of USB 2 drives in the house in various sizes, is it possible to just plug in one of these drives and use it as the main Xbox 360 HDD? Is it really that simple or do microsoft stand against that?
No, But there is a way to put a laptop hdd inside of a hdd case and format it for use with a 360. That will work but its complicated for some people.
for more information read this. http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEZZkAAAVVpHxXqpYb.php most usb hard drive are in the 2.5inch form factor meaning you could use one for that mod.
Hmm, I was afraid of that, googling around came up with the same answer before I posted but I thought there might be an assembler way around it. I'm pretty sure my local cash convertors has a 360 HDD, might see how much it is tomorrow and then mod it.
Key terms you want to be looking for: HDDHackr, WD BEVS 120 2.5" HDD. If you can get a 20GB 360 HDD caddy and a PC with a spare SATA connector then you're pretty much set, the rest is really simple. If you're missing a file give me a shout - there's one that can't legally be distributed with HDDHackr, although it often is.
You Have to Use the Xbox Drive And You Cant Use An External USB Drive Unfortunatly But You Can Also Do What Alchy Suggests
Not trying to be mean, but why did you use a capital letter at the beginning of each word? You stated something someone else already said otherwise, and then referenced to something already posted in the same topic. But yeah, any 2.5" should work, just make sure it's wiped, and put it in the 360 HDD case, put it on your 360, and you can go to format in the Memory section of the system items, and it should allow you to use it. Good luck on your mod.
Not trying to be mean, but why did you even bother? You stated something that clearly doesn't work and shouldn't even be tried. AFAIK you can only use WD BEVS-RST series drives, atleast this was the case when I put a 120GB in my 'box.
Actually it work(s/ed) on devkits, so he probably got mixed up. His information was not invalid so much as mismatched. So how about you guys stop trying to find a way to get back at what he posted so much as actually helping the damn guy... and no I'm not just talking about you Jack.. posts like LEo's are helpful in no way, gabe_k's just supports leos, but doesn't give a reason as to why.. and is more disrespectful. He had a goddamn valid statement, clearly was not trying to be disrespectful as he said "Not to be mean but..", and you guys just made a huge unneccessary clump of garbage. His entire purpose to the thread was to give it less garbage, and only introduce points that were unmade so the OP could get to their conclusion quicker, and because of this, you guys all did the exact opposite. So how about next time instead of some smartass comments to find a way to own a guy with his own words, you grow up and post in a more mature fashion? Thanks..
I wasn't trying to be a douche, but he was wrong and I was just pointing that out. You can't just slap a drive on your 360 and expect it to generate an hddss with keys that it doesn't even have. You have to HDDHackr it (or do it manually).
He clearly stated it was a retail, making my point valid, I could have gone into greater detail but honestly I didn't feal like it. The purpose was mainly not to let people be misinformed and in reality his WHOLE post was misleading.
Yet.. you didn't say what was correct, you just said someone else posted incorrectly, didn't explain why, and for all the OP knows, you could've been the one that was incorrect, seeing as you showed no sucificient proof. More so though I'm wondering what is up with JackAz!, he blew things totally out of proportion.
