hi members , my mum has a Samsung Galaxy S4 that she uses the GPS function , and was just given one of those cameras that film your trips for safety. Her car has only one USB port , i was wondering if she was to buy a USB Hub that would work out ok ? i'm a bit concerned about power draw with both devices being used at the same time and possibly doing something to her car. chat soon
You have a USB port and 12V CIG? Or a USB port in the 12V CIG? Otherwise, if you have a USB port, and a CIG port, you can use both. Dashcams can be hardwired for power as well, many hardwire them for less clutter in the interior. The only issue with USB Hubs in cars, is they can blow the fuse for the circuit, but nothing expensive to fix.
hi HEX , mum's car doesn't have one of those cigarette ports which is odd just a USB port only like on a PC.
it's a Holden , it's about 2-3 years old...........unknown title i'm hopeless with cars , i don't even have a learners permit.
It would have to have a cig port, 12V port somewhere. Might be in the console lid. If 2016 corollas have them, I'm sure a 2 year old holden would.
most cars built in usb ports only have a 1amp max output it should say somewhere around the port, look in the owners manual it should mention.. the S4 can pull up too 2.4amps you can use a non powered hub or even just splice a cable (you may have to short the data lines to get the s4 charging), running both would be fine they'll just charge really slow.. most dash cams only pull a few hundred mill amps also most good dash cams have a 12v input as well, so you can hardwire it in, thats probably a much cleaner approach
not to mention that the usb port is probably only intended to be used with a flash drive for tunes on the radio
The USB port in my car does barely anything relating to charging. I never bothered to measure what it is using but it seems worse than the USB on a computer.
