Is it possible to convert a USB 2.0 male end of an sd card reader to a dreamcast serial male connector? The only reason I'm asking is I want to buy an SD card reader but aliexpress is the only one selling besides TaoBao. Both will take 2 months shipping, and they look very cheap with glue globbed on the inside to keep the male end of the connector from moving. Then I found these circulating - http://world.taobao.com/item/415761...513&pvid=648658d3-1a2f-432f-b7d7-7f1f4ba26171 Looks like they just took a USB 2.0 SD card reader and modified it to fit in a dreamcast.
Yes you can! The schematic is pretty simple, the only real challenge is making a connector for the serial port. I believe people were successful using hacked PCI/ISA connectors.
You're right, that will be a challenge. I wonder where I can get some at? EDIT: Found these... http://www.wolfsoft.de/shop/product...ath/109_114/kabel/dreamcast-coders-cable.html http://www.consolesandgadgets.co.uk...7_1440604758_a9a2e28ff0b29219845f9317963c531e
Can you do that? I'm guessing you need the entire SD reader board and just solder it to the necessary solder points?
The usb port idea wouldn't work. You don't need anything except the sd-card connector and the components on the schematics. You could salvage a usb sd-card adapter for its sd connector and add a slit to your case to make a sd-card slot accesible from the outside. [EDIT] Helder here also sells some nice pre-made PCBs with a ribbon to do an internal mod.
Thanks I ended up buying Helder's model and I'm getting it Monday/Tuesday. If anyone ends up reading this thread, please do not buy the chinese ones from Aliexpress. Terrible build quality and will arrive in 2 months. Helder's on the other hand will take less than a week to arrive and he ships it the next day after payment clears. Plus the build quality is amazing.
