Gonna be in Nogoya next week. Anybody know some used game shops there I should check out? I know there's an area in Osu called Denki-Gai, which is kind of the Nagoya mini-Akihabara. Anything else I should know about?
Yes, I've been to two nice game shops in Nagoya, but I can't remember their names or the name of the area.... sorry. It probably is in Denki Gai. All I remember was that I walked from the train station (dunno which name), down one street, turned left and walked through the courtyard of some big temple, and beyond that courtyard the arcades start. (Here, arcades mean covered shopping streets, not game centres.) At the end of one of the arcades, there is street with some clothing shops. I turned left and went up that street for one or two blocks, then turned right and went down a medium-sized street with shops on either side. There were the typical PC and software shops, some electronics shops, and a nice game shop on the right side of the street; but then after a few blocks, one great games shop on the left side of the street. It's small but has/had lots of good deals and a nice selection. That's my favourite shop in Nagoya. Yeah, it's no Akihabara but... Sorry I don't know the names, but I know exactly how to walk there. Funny, eh?
Thanks dude! I'm gonna print out your description and take it with me. Sounds like you went to Osu, since there's a huge ass temple there. BTW, where in Japan are you at?
Well, I sucessfully visited Denki-Gai. :-D Found three stores. One called Dolphin, that had a very large Retro section, but all rather pricey. Then this used record store with a huge retrogame section. Picked up a bunch of PCE stuff there for a nice price, but nothing too rare. Then further down that road was Access Field. Truly great store with some killer rarities. Was able to finally get my mint Akumajo Dracula Famicom cartridge there, among a bunch of other neat stuff. They even had a Darius Alpha for sale, although I passed on that opportunity.
Somebody asked about this in another thread, but for sake of convenience I will post it in this thread: Direction to "Denki-Gai" from Nagoya station: - Take the Sakuradori (red) subway line to "Marunouchi" - Change to Tsurumai (blue) subway line and get off at "Kamimaezu" - Get out of Kamimaezu station EXIT 8 - Immediately to your right will be a covered shopping arcade, walk straight ahead through the covered arcade. Look for a place called "Dolphin" in the arcade, they sell lots of retro games, but are comparatively expensive. - Continue down the shopping arcade, until it ends. The perpendicular street here is Akamon Dori, aka "Denki-gai". Now you can: a) Turn right and you will find a used record store that also has a whole bunch of nicely priced retro games, junk boxes, etc. Or b) Turn left and walk past the first stoplight until you find a store called "Access Field". This is Nagoya's main retro game collectors' store and it's rather awesome. ^__^ There's some more places in this area, but I haven't found them yet. I'll post any new finds if they're worthwhile.
