Gamestop employee told me that when stores start getting trade in ouyas they are required to send back to manufacturer to have memory wiped before they can be resold, and that the price for the used ouya will be 90.00usd. can anyone confirm?
Sounds about right. After the news that someone bought a used Wii U with fully loaded games I'm sure they are doing the same thing for that as well. For some reason I misread the title at first as Ouya used as doorstop, wouldn't be surprised
I'm actually kinda surprised it's only $10 off for the used one. I would have expected $20-30 cheaper. I mean I figure they are only paying $20 or so for it anyway...I assume
This is gamestop. By default their policy states games only can be given $20USD trade in credit. And then they only discount it $5 from the new ones... Of course they're only gonna discount a console $10
Who the hell buys at Gamestahp anyways? Last time they offered me a USED Kirby's Epic Yarn for $59.99, almost 4 years after release. Those silly rascals.
Yeah I guess that is a good point. I completely forgot new games go for only $5 less then retail. Damn it's been a while since I've shopped there
Went to a gamestop last week, Tchoin was there too and yes the prices were crazy, a mom&pop store just down the road was twice as big, had easily four times the variety of games and charged almost three times less in some cases. Isnt the point of a franchise to offer lower prices than regular businesses?
Hmmmm... you would think it would make more sense to wipe the memory in store. No wonder it costs $90 used, shipping Ouya's every which way is going to add a lot of expense.
I don't know if GameStop could legally wipe the memory of an Ouya in store. It kind of reminds me of cell phone stores, but more specifically for someone who owns an iPhone that has an issue with it. You can trade the phone in, but legally, the company cannot open the iPhone up to work on repairs. They must ship the phone back to Apple for any repair. I don't know if the Ouya's policy requires GameStop to ship them back, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did require the Ouya to be shipped back.
You (non-apple stores) can get certification to work on apple devices. I don't see why the parent company of Ouya can't "certify" Gamestop. Make them pay $X to train someone how to use the "memory wipe" application, and they save tons on overhead (shipping). I think that's the idea here. Of course, the right of first sale should take care of this legally (in the states), but we don't "own" anything anymore. We are only "licensed to use" (digitally downloaded) games. That license can't be sold like a CD can...
I don't know why this surprises anybody these days. How easily some forget that Gamestop is EB Games, home of the original "Trade n Save" scam. Dicks.
