Using a Famicom 3D System on a SMS without the 3D adapter?

Hi all! So I've been wanting to try out SMS 3D games but I'm having a hard time finding the 3D glasses adapter by itself. I was wondering if it is possible to wire the Famicom 3D System directly into the SMS itself, bypassing the SMS 3D glasses adapter?

If not, can the adapter be easily replicated? Any help is highly appreciated!

EDIT: I'm asking about the Famicom 3D System's adapter, not the glasses. The glasses are just LCD shutter glasses so they work fine on the SMS with the SMS 3D glasses adapter.

I think they're just shutter glasses... So, yeah, I imagine you could wire it up.

You need to find out how the SMS outputs its sync signal to the glasses and translate it to the what the Fami3D expects. Provide power too, of course. Can't imagine it's more than 12v, probably 3.3 or 5. Once you find out the signal speeds you can look into a board like an Arduino to run everything.

I should probably have clarified that I was talking about the actual box the glasses plug into, not the glasses themselves... I was wondering if that part is the same as the SMS 3D glasses adapter. Unless you were talking about the box and not the glasses?

There are two parts to the SMS adapter. One decodes the address and data and the other drives the glasses. You need to replace or reproduce both of these. The Famicom adapter can drive the glasses but obviously can't decode the SMS bus so you need to reproduce at least the decoder if you don't have an SMS adapter. It's not particularly hard to do if you understand how to build memory mapped IO but it's much more complicated than just wiring the glasses "directly" into the SMS.

Yeah, something like that is over my head right now. I can follow instructions though so if you could tell me how to build this, I'll gladly buy the parts and start working on it. I'm always willing to learn new tech stuff.

Sometime ago I've seen on smspower an adapter for sms2. It was a pcb that was connected on the pins for the cart slot. Also there's a schematic available to make your own adapter.

I can't seem to find info on that. I've managed to find a bunch of dead links, however.

    Is this the schematic?

Yes. That's the schematic. Search smspower. I can't remember the links, but it's a guy that made the pcb i told you. He also made a pcb adapter so you can use the glasses and the gun on game gear.
EDIT: His name is wasup and I found the link for the gamegear:

    Scroll to the bottom.
You should contact him and maybe he has some spare pcbs for sms or game gear.

I just bit the bullet and bought an official adapter for $30..... I'll probably come back to this in the future for the Game Gear. Regardless, thanks for the info. I still would like to try this someday.

I wouldn't have any instructions to follow. I did this years ago and it was for Genesis copiers and included FM so not exactly the same but the circuit for that bit would be. I basically just copied an adapter so now that you have one and you know what parts are needed you could easily work it out.

I'm going to have to look at it further then. I plugged in my Famicom glasses and after a bit of messing with the plug to get the shutters working, it works. My god does it work.... The 3D effect in Maze Hunter 3-D is AMAZING!!! It actually feels like there is real depth to the top down game and when the player jumps, they really do fly off screen!! Even the title screen is popping off screen nicely!
