Sorry I didn't explain it fully. I can confirm the battery was never disconnected and it wasn't that the time needed to be set, it was stuck.

Manually trying to change the date or time resulted in it 'flicking' directly back to 00:00. The only way to trip it into working was by holding down constantly whilst exiting the menu.

The machine was one that badad modded so it certainly wasn't anything to do with the install either. Once the RTC was working again the machine was perfect.

It could potentially just be a blip with the ghost2 firmware (it is on the latest beta firmware) but one worth noting at least?

I am using a super cheap modbo 5
There weren't any shorts, I checked with a MM
    The battery is fully charged
I wrote to the eeprom 5 times in that state
    :)

Holding up while trying to change date (year 2000 bouncing between 2000 and 2001 really fast) and selecting ok (X) cleared the RTC error

Some PS2s you only reach the mainboard by disconnecting the battery. Others, the battery holder is part of the motherboard. It's also possible to mess with the clock chip by inducing shorts on the motherboard by accident. Many variables involved.

Still, it goes as I said. The clock chip was stopped, on power saving mode. Pressing X does what I said: it sets the time, making the clock start running. All you need to do is try it twice. First time makes it start running and second time it takes the setting you input.

    ahh I understand now.
Thank you and SP193 for all the input :)

Ok so I grabbed another Modbo5, reinstalled it but this tie I left the RTC battery in place (the first time I did this I removed the battery, checked it and it was 2v)

System works still and the chip boots..

So either I did short something or the chip was faulty??

To be fair I didn't even power up the console before working on it the first time... So it may have (00.0000000001%) already had this problem
