First off this isn't a mod i couldn't find a related forum to put this under, if there is one please move. I will up load pictures shortly after i post this , but the 40mhz crystal on my v64 jr has broken off (wasn't my fault to say the least) my question is is it possible to replace the crystal with a faster one? i am having trouble finding the exact same speed crystal. Thank You Very Much.
No. You need a 40mhz crystal. Fortunately they're pretty common. You can dig around some old electronics, or order one off www.digikey.com or pretty much any electronics supplier. Radioshack doesn't count
Mouser Electronics (http://www.mouser.com) is my vendor of choice for all my projects. They have very good prices and stock, so you can find just about everything there. I just got a 10 MHz crystal from there, for my ARM development system. --Selgus
Speaking of the V64jr, has anyone had to replace the memory? I think my memory had developed problems. The v64jr tool is unable to initialize memory. I've ordered a replacement simm, so I should know shortly if that is the problem.
It might be the voltage that the memory is not receiving 3.3 volts, try this modification and see if it works: http://dextrose.com/files/n64/modifications/FixYourV64Jr512.zip
Actually it was just the Parallel port cable I was using. Switching to a Radio Shack one fixed it. My guess is that one (or more) pins weren't comnnected. As a side note, the V64jr does not take PC simms.
