I'm trying to flash my BIOS chip with Dreamshell 4 RC 3 to load the DS Boot Loader from SD card. Dreamshell says the chip is read only. When I attempt to flash the BIOS with anything I'm getting this error:

I believe I have the chips wired up correctly for this chip to be writable. I have a VA0 model dreamcast that I've installed a bios chip (obtained from Bad_Ad84). It's a VA0 board so wires going to 1 and 23 are swapped. Leg 1, 12, 23 raised.

The extra wires you see in the pictures are because I also have a older 4-wire mod chip installed on the retail bios chip. Here's some shots of my setup, but basically it's following the mmmonkey tutorial exactly except for what I mentioned since it's a VA0 chip/board. If anyone can help me figure this out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

You forgot to lift leg 44(from the new Chip)

That shouldnt matter, as pin 44 does nothing on the original chip.

The reason it doesnt work - dreamshell doesnt have the correct programming algorithm for the VA0 chip.

However, as you swapped pin 1 and 44 connections, the resistor should not connect to pin 1 anymore, but pin 44.

Thanks for your answer. That's a bummer.. Do you know of any other way to flash a VA0 chip once it's installed?

Send Swat a VA0 console, so he can add/test a way to program it.

    Other than that, unfortunately not.

Ok,but how the correct wirering for va 0 ones then is looking like?
Is the pinout on mmmonkey not correct?
I've got almost the same problem.on my va 1 its working flawless. But on va 0 it's even Not recognized.:(

If I got it back I'd be happy to send a VA0 over with a chip preinstalled.

The mmmonkey tutorial only works for a VA1. On a VA0, wire from rasied pin 1 goes to small contact point on motherboard. Raised pin 44 is connected to pin 23. And as Bad_Ad84 has pointed out, the resistor should be switched from going to pin 1 to pin 44.
