    Hi there,

I've recently bought a Japanese (ntsc-j) VA1 mainboard on ebay to replace my VA0 mainboard.
Also I've added a few mods to make it fit my needs.
    - Replaced the stock PSU with a PicoPSU
    - Got a flashable bios chip from bad_ad84, piggybacked it and fitted a switch to select between original and dreamshell retail bios loader
    - Since I'm using the VA0 heatpipes and fan, I've had to cut the trace and fake the pwm signal as described here: https://bitbuilt.net/forums/index.php?attachments/fake_pwm_hack-png.4562/
    - Closed r422 to apply the pal fix: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/dreamcast-ntsc-pal-r422-mod/
    - Added my ide2cf cardreader soldered to the testing IDE-points which holds my cf-card

So all if working fine and I can switch between the original and bad_ad84's chip.
Bad_ad84's chip is flashed with the dreamshell retail loader bios, which makes it boot from cf-card.
The original bios gives the possibility to boot original gd-rom discs.

Now the only problem is that the original bios is Japanse due to the fact the mainboard comes from a ntsc-j system.

I'd like to change it to ntsc-u and English.
So I've soldered the wire from the 12v pin to r512 as described here:
    http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/dreamcast-region-change/

So with the wire in place I boot into dreamshell and run the region changer 1.8.5 to set it to NTSC-U and language to English.
Now when I press "WRITE" it seems to have saved the settings somewhere.. but my original bios remains Japanese :/

I've also tried to boot from the original bios-chip and run dreamshell from CD-R (which will still load the rest of the OS from the cf-card.. pretty clever).

But when I run the region changer, it shows my previous settings, but pressing "WRITE" again still doesn't change the language to English?

    Any ideas?

    Change language doesn't work.

Need to boot original Bios SEGA,and change language in Setting.

I asked Megavolt and Japanese_Cake for a software in Dreamshell for change language, but for the moment no solution.

Because when you have changed Bios for Dreamshell (so remove Sega bios),and you forget to change the language you need to flash bios again in "normal bios"..change language..and reflash in Dreamshell..so for the moment need to don't forget change language before !! :)

    My precedent post here :

    Thanks @dragoncity.
So I should do the following things:
    1. Set switch to original bios chip
    2. Boot into Dreamcast main-menu and change language to English.
    3. Start Dreamshell from CD-R -> Region changer -> Write settings again (NTSC-U / Orange swirl / English language)
    4. Switch to Bad_ad84's bios chip
    5. Reflash it with Dreamshell loader retail bios ?

Because I cannot flash the original bios chip :p

Btw @dragoncity now you're here, I'd like to ask another question.
    My CF-card holds your Dreamshell 22-10-2018 from here: http://dragoncity17.free.fr/Dreamcast/DS DragonCity/DS -DragonCity- 22-10-2018.zip
    So I've got:
    IDE:/DS <- Your release
My optimized GDI's are in subfolders Games/NAME/gdi_optimized.gdi etc:
    IDE:/Games/Sonic2/gdi_optimized.gdi
    IDE:/Games/Sonic2/TrackXX.iso

Now many games reported working on your excel sheet: http://dreamshell.infos.st/ do not work.
E.g. sonic adventure starts into a black screen, daytona usa freezes unless I disable "fast boot" option (I believe)..

Are you sure your presets are set for use with IDE and not sd-card?

If you have a switch no :) (if you have remove bios sega you need to reflash etc..)

So just need to switch bios sega and change language !

If you can don't use DS on IDE...presets doesn't work correctly !

Use an SD MOD (or Dongle DS) for boot Dreamshell and put your games in your HDD (or CF).

I checked for Sonic Adventure 2,I don't optimize the game. (I remember some games don't like optimize, but very rare !)

If you optimize BE CAREFUL don't put true DMA >> In my list DMA doesn't work with Sonic Adventure 2 !

Are you sure your presets are set for use with IDE and not sd-card?
    > Yes lol,sd card is not good..very slow access time !!

So I should get a sdcard and run DreamShell from there instead? to get the profiles to work correctly?
I'll play with it some more then :)

There used to be a IDE games pack on theisozone, which was a set of games known to work correctly from IDE.
But now theisozone is gone, the pack is gone.. So I got a bunch of TOSEC releases and batch optimized them using MegaVolt's tool..

Btw, it would be good to get the SWAT team motivated again to work some more on DreamShell..
Do they have a patreon page or something?

There's early va0 consoles that don't read their settings from flash, so region changer doesn't work iirc.

Need to replace the bios, then it works. Someone had same issue not that long ago.

Edit: Ignore all this, you are using va1 board not va0. Read it wrong

    @dragoncity Thanks again..
All I had to do was going into the original bios and change the language to English from within the main dashboard :p
Now my console is NTSC-U with English language again.

Also I can confirm that most (if not all) presets don't apply when running DreamShell from IDE.
I've looked at your excel-sheet list and setup some games according to your settings and they all seem to work.
Also I've saved the Sonic Adventure International settings as a preset, so I'm going to see what actually got saved on my CF-card and what would be the difference between my saved preset and the one that was originally already there from your DS release.
Perhaps I can mass change them to make them all apply when running from IDE as well (using some bash scripting).

    Thanks again!
