Hey japanese gamers who have the game, what is your take on the whole game? Is it a must buy? I'm really debating if i'll buy the game this holiday season. The reason being is I liked the demo quite a bit but I will have a lot to play this season and if I wait I could posibly get it cheaper next year. Yet at the same time i'm fearful this game might not sell well which will result in sega droping support for it (japan got a lot of extended content and it would suck if USA never gets it due to poor sales). :crying: If your wondering my holiday buying is Mercinaries 2 (got it already *) LBP (got it already) Persona 4 (fearful it will be expensive to buy next year, so will get it this year anyways) Farcry 2 (free from work) Prince of Persia (free from work) Dead Space (getting next week *) Mirrors Edge (*) Spores (getting next week *) Red Alert 3 (getting next week *) Dissidia Final Fantasy Prinny PSP Loco Roco 2 (*) Friend works at EA so I get them for much much cheaper
It rocks: http://www.gamengai.com/bn_inf.php?type=article&id=1787 Story mode can be done in about 20-25 hours, but the free battles (especially hard mode which is unlocked after clearing the game) are great. I've yet to get the DL content, but probably will.
Simplest way I can think to call it is a More actiony SRPG with out a grid. It is in no way a 3rd person shooter or a straight up action game. It plays out like a SRPG would but there is no grid and second some things are active while your moving (like enemies can be firing at you while your moving around, you can do return fire on enemies after they attack, etc).
No grid? That'd make it a lot like Phantom Brave, except with vehicles, right? I keep thinking that Valkyria Chronicles must have some presentation elements in common with Sakura Taisen, and that this might be a dry run for a possible localization of the next ST game. A guy can hope.
if i were a PS3 owner, which i hope to be in the coming months, i'd feel almost obligated to buy this game.
Looks pretty good. Downloaded a demo the other day. I'll have to try it out. There's been a drought of quality Japanese games in this vain.
They've definitely borrowed some of the Sakura Taisen battle engine (the one introduced in 3). It's still quite expanded though. Don't think, just buy. This is one of those games that reminds you Sega still has some life left in them. And it's got Vyse & Aika from Eternal Arcadia.
Uggg. IGN/1up made it harder to resist (maybe I should chuck persona 4 and wait for the enevitable fes release as it sounds like japan is getting one early next year). IGN gave it a 9.0 and said it's a must buy for ps3 gamers. 1up gave it an A-. Why does good games all have to come out at once insted of over time. =(
Blame all the major Western religions. Since Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all copies of one another (as well as heavily incoropoarting elements of paganism) you end up with a grouping of religious holidays at the end of the year. Holidays mean gifts. Gifts mean people spend money. Money getting spent means game companies wanting their best games on store shelves. -hl718
I think that has more to do w/ it being the end of the year than religious. I mean... like it or not, Xmas isn't a religious holiday.
Eh, tell that to the millions (billions?) of Christians around the world. Christmas was originally a pagan celebration before it was co-opted into a religious holiday. Yeah, a lot of the current celebrations are pretty secular but you'd be hard pressed to argue that the holiday itself didn't originate as a religious holiday. That'd be like claiming Hannukah wasn't a religious holiday. -hl718
