Hi again. Sorry for making so many topics as of late but I have alot of questions lol.

Anyway my dad has a coworker who asked him if he wanted to buy a old sealed NES. My dad told him I collect and now I am working on getting it from him. He knows it has some kind of value but I dont think he grasps it very well ;)

Anyway what should I look to pay for it top end? Whats its current value if its really mint and sealed? Its the square unit with front load. Please let me know and thanks!

it's not new but close enough and maybe an indication what a new one might be worth:

    http://cgi.ebay.nl/Boxed-Nintendo-Nes-Console-With-2-Controllers_W0QQitemZ110142902825QQihZ001QQcategoryZ3617QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

Off course a new factory sealed one might go for whatever a crazy man wants to pay for it ;) but myself I wouldn't pay more then GBP 50 / EUR 75 for it.. but hey I'm not crazy :) and I think that there are too many frontload NES's going around anyway for it to be really worth a big amount!

I`m with you on this one!

One week, put it up for £50/$70 and no bids, put it up a few weeks later two mad collectors with bottom-less pockets and the sky`s the limit

But I think anyone who was that anal would probably by two when released

That's right it's more about timing then what it's really worth! I always have the same shit when looking for something on ebay, I might be looking at auctions of console x for months going for lets say 50 bucks and then when I decide to buy one and start bidding they usually go for the double or more.. guess I'm just unlucky with auctions usually or I just have bad timing  it's having money at the right time and right place that get's you somewhere usually! if you wait until you have money and you just can't wait with buying something when you do then you probably pay the highest amount for it!

Anyway to stay ontopic just tell the guy that he can either sell it to you for amount x (whatever you think its worth for you) right away or he can list it on ebay and wait for the one crazy guy that wants to pay double and go trough all the hustle of listing it and shipping it and whatnot!

How about a new angle... How much would the NES's big brother in Japan... "Super Famicom" sell for new? Given what people say about the NES, I'm guessing the consoles are too closely related to have a big price diffrence.

A famicom or super famicom (especially boxed and new!) will always be worth more then a standard EU/US control deck NES!

The otherthing is that any item can be worth any amount, but unless you want to sell it it is worthless.

A guy a few years ago had some game, was told it was worth £200 for a figure, can`t remember what it was.

Someone genuinely offered him in cash in his hand. He started at £100, then £200, £300, £400, £500, but he still refused to sell.

So in theory the game was worthless, he didn`t want any money for it

So any item is only worth what someone wants to pay for it or someone wants to sell. It is only possible to give a guide price, but these can vary

I remember a freind paying $1400 for Virtual Bowling a few years ago only to sell it a while ago with Gundam for about $700!

So that`s what I tell my wife when she says "if you sell all your stuff we can buy an even bigger house, new cars" etc etc etc ;-)

I know what you mean with worthless, but it seems to not really fit for a 'rare' game or console and if the guy didn't want to sell it it makes the game priceless to him and worth 500 max for the other.. worthless would only apply to something that nobody wants i think, while the more people looking for it and the less selling it would make something worth more (demand and availabillity) so to make an estimate what something is worth is to look at how many are roughly out there / how hard are they to find and what I usually do is follow/watch several ebay auctions and make an avarage of the total amounts to get an estimate what something is worth to the general public (not taking the exceptions in account off course) because their will always be the crazy I don't care how much it costs I will buy it! and the greedy that lists it for huge amounts waiting for the crazy to show up... :-(
But if that's what you say to your wife to save your collection then cheers mate!

Umm, to answer your question... it'd depend on which pack. I mean, a bog standard NES with Mario isn't worth much, even boxed. Boxed with Mario / Duck Hunt / ROB, now we're talking money!

Is it shrink wrapped? Always hard to prove that something that old is legitimately shrink wrapped, unfortunately. Always buy from a reputable source.

    HOWEVER.....

    Are we forgetting this?

I dont have the item yet so its not possable to be fishing with it lol. I should have made the topic something like what would you pay for a sealed NES? Or what should I look to pay for one. Im not asking for a price check really, just wanted to see opinions on how much people would pay for it.
