Variation in max screen brightness in PS Vita OLEDs?

I just picked up a PS Vita (OLED) for the first time and although I love it, I find that there are some situations where the screen's not as bright as I'd like it to be. I realise that OLEDs tend not to be that bright - but looking at various forums, it seems some feel that their OLED Vitas are super-bright (in fact there's even a utility out to further dim it beyond lowest settings), and others say they feel the same way as me in that they'd prefer it to be brighter.

I'd like to stick with the OLED model - does anyone know if there are variations in max screen brightness among the OLED Vita models?

I haven’t seen any major differences, I’ve owned a walking dead unit and currently have a Miku unit, I’ve also repaired at least 15 others. For me the lowest setting is still too high in a darkened room but the highest isn’t enough for daytime outdoors. I’ve never seen that on a lcd vita

Thanks for that - much appreciated. I have a brand new PCH-1000 coming so it'll be interesting to see.

Just a thought - I know there's a hack to dim the screen further and minimum setting for playing in the dark - I wonder if there's another to drive the brightness higher than max? Maybe that's not advisable but it would be interesting to see.

That’s a great idea if you want the screen to die.

I realised that almost immediately after I posted ;). I won't be looking to overdrive the screen but have looked into whether you can counteract the screen brightness restriction in certain games (Metal gear solid for example), where the game drops the overall brightness cap by about 25%. I don't think there's an answer to this.

I have a feeling that the higher processor speed mode plus highest screen brightness is too much load on the battery. Either that or the battery life is shortened unacceptably - in which case I would be interested in being able to override it but there doesn't seem to be a way apart from forcibly underclocking which I would imagine impacts the game.

However after ruminating on it and doing the research, I'm happy with the way things are - I'm just very interested to see how my new Vita compares to the old one re. max brightess. I should be getting it within the next week & will get back here with the results..
