Does anyone know why the 1.5 was pulled from production and they went back to the 1.4's? Was it a security flaw or a production flaw? Also does anyone know if they had a different kernel?
I read that in a few sources over the years that the 1.5's were only in production few a couple of days and they stop production and went back to the 1.4's. I really cant remember where I read that and who else I heard that from but it was for sure from a few places.
Did they go back to 1.5 afterwards? I've worked in supply chain and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a supply chain issue. Shortage of something needed for 1.5 models, and surplus of 1.4 stuff, I'd tell the plant manager lets go back to 1.4 for a couple of weeks till we get enough supply. Problem is... that would be quite a costly turnover. That would require a total of 3 turnovers, verses 1 turnover had it been done right the first time. Plus the time lost/ production lost.
Well it means a new PCB for sure. Usually, BOMs are unique to a PCB run. The revised 1.5 BOM could have contained parts that in appearance look exaclty like those of a 1.4 but comes from a different (cheaper at the moment) manufacturer. Anyway just a theory. My guess is that the 1.5 was short lived because the 1.6 revision was more profitable for Microsoft. They rushed the 1.6 in.
