Hello! I am willing to bet I am one of few people who noticed this problem with Krikzz' awesome Everdrive for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive/32x, but here is one! I use RGB for my Genesis and 32, and for some reason, using csync instead of composite sync yields a much better picture quality (making this fix I was able to get rid of these ugly vertical pinstripes or jailbars I got in my image). Anyway, normal carts work just fine. However, the Everdrive flickers and loses its image like crazy! It's almost impossible to choose a game. When I eventually choose a game, it boots up just fine and displays properly. Just the Everdrive menu system won't display. I know it's an obscure problem but it's enough that it almost makes using my Everdrive impossible. It seems as though it simply doesn't sync properly over RGB if not using composite sync. Any thoughts, folks?
By composite SYNC, you mean the C-VIDEO output, right ? CSYNC is actually generated by the VDP (the "GPU") while C-VIDEO (composite video signal) is generated by the Video Encoder. CSYNC is used as input for the Video Encoder to generate video signal on the output connector and is also output unmodified on the same connector (this is the signal you are apparently using as RGB sync). Now, it could be that some undocumented VDP registers bits can alter the generation of CYSNC. For example, I know HSYNC and VSYNC can be controlled through VDP register #12 and that VDP register #0 bit 0 affects video sync. Commercial games would write valid data to these registers but maybe Everdrive OS is setting something that disable or modify CSYNC generation ? Have you tried with different OS revisions, the startup code with initialize MD hardware has apparently been changed from v20 ? On that matter, I can confirm that my PAL MD2 (with a SCART connector) works without problem in RGB with Everdrive MD but I don't know if CSYNC is used by official RGB cable.
CSYNC isn't used by the official RGB cable, composite csync is. This is because the Genesis/Mega Drive model 1 does not have CSYNC wired up (I think this was an accident on Sega's part). I can confirm retail games display fine, and for some reason the Everdrive flickers and loses sync like crazy, until the game is loaded. Then it's fine. But it's almost impossible to select the game.
Any docs on how to enable CSYNC? I wouldn't mind a fix for the jailbars on my Genesis 2 RGB cable. If there is one I'm capable of.
