I have AT LAST bought Evolution for my Dreamcast and was going to start playing it tonight - the game case says VGA compatible on it (playing PAL version) and I am using a home made VGA adaptor, when the game starts it gets past the Dreamcast start up logo then goes to a scree saying 'this game is not compatible with the AV cable that is plugged in, please turn system off and try a different cable' I've been using this home made cable for ages (on Shenmue, power stone 2, etc etc) and have never seen this screen come up at all - I even tried acouple of DC consoles but same screen everytime! Has anybody experienced this or know a fix for it (I have a feeling its something to do with maybe linking an earth point or something)
1) Unplug the cable halfway 2) Power cycle the system 3) Wait for the game to start booting (right after the DC logo, you'll learn the timing with practice) 4) Quickly push the cable all the way in 5) BAM! VGA. SRSLY. It works. PAL version of Evolution is technically VGA compatible, but doesn't have the right flags set so most VGA boxes won't work right with it unless you use a boot disc or do the "loose cable" trick. Basically, the icon on the box is wrong.
tried the method you said and it worked on my second try - thanks for the advice! seriously odd that its like that though.
