For what it's worth I always preferred the shape of the JPN Mega Drive carts over the western shape. I don't know why but to me there was just something more aesthetically pleasing about them.
Don't know where the photo came from but this was my old Wondermega, miss that bad-boy, and my old house that photo was taken in. They rarely seem to come up on Yahoo auctions these days? Maybe most of them have packed in?
Since no one has mentioned this yet i'll give it a shot, I'd personally perfer that if Sega were smart enough to make the WonderMega or X'eye as an original marketing console i think the company would've sold millions that same year the Sega CD were to release it in stores wiping the SNES outta the water imho
Hi all, I Just recently unearthed a Victor model of the wondermega (in post 23) whilst clearing out my basement. I acquired this around 12 years ago from a friend who passed it on, as it no longer powered up. At the time I took it to a game console repair shop to see if they could fix it. The story goes, is that the owner of Chipshop 2000 in Wood Street Liverpool UK (closed down in 2008) if anyone knows of this high priced shop lol, tried to con me into giving it them for free, as their engineer reported it was DEAD and not repairable and they they were going to use it as a Display in their glass cabinet, which i was told. However, this was untrue as their was an Original MegaCD disc inside when I got home (so i know it was tested) and the engineer apparently told the owner Martin it needed a capacitor or something (not exactly sure what was wrong with it but it was something like that) and that Martin then told the engineer to undo the fix, as he wanted to sell it and make a profit. I was advised this by a close trusted source at the time and I had a gut feeling about not handing it over, as I noticed the owner Martin was very persuasive into having it. As a result, i kept it and just recently found it again. Can someone advise on how this could be investigated and the steps needed on how this can be fixed? I have no clue what the original problem was and what work was done on it. The only thing I noticed when I opened it up, is that it may have a RGB mod or something, as there is wires soldered in different places on the PCB's which look like its done by somebody and not done from a factory environment. Thank you
Oh, the good old ChipShop and their BS. Yep, I know the chip shop very well. I also knew the owner Martin and his amazing BS. I worked over the road at the weekends for a guy called Eric in the games swap shop (yeah, pretty poor name) back in around 1990. Him and Martin were always having a go at each other. Erics shop wasn't as cool at the ChipShop but at least Eric wasn't full of shit. Anyway, very good thing you didn't give away that Wondermega. If you can take some pictures of the insides somebody may be able to help you out with fixing it.
I remember Eric too, his shop in the downstairs area of the Palace and have fond memories of it back in the 90's and it was more of a chilled out atmosphere compared to Chip shop. I used to buy my import Snes and N64 carts from Eric (always cheaper than rip off shop Miss them days, as the Internet/Ebay, etc, has killed off the indie shops. Always looked forward to seeing the latest imports and trying them out like 6 months or so before a PAL release and bragging to your'e mates that you got the latest Japanese import. But yeah, I'll try and make some pics of the insides and hopefully someone can help, as its just sitting as brick on my shelf.
If you used to go to Erics shop I've probably seen you at some point in the past. I was there every saturday and even sometimes through the week before I started to work in HMV. By the way, do you remember Games Magik that was in the cavern? Oh, and there was Micro Bytes in St. Johns. Liverpool had quite a few good import game shops back in the late 80's to mid 90's. I'd love to know what happened to Eric. I left the UK in November 1998 but I'm sure he still had his shop in the Palace back then.
Yeah, I remember them all very well and also Bits & Bytes in Central Station. Not sure what happened to Eric but he was still there in 98, I think he shut down early 2003-2004 or something and TNT games in London Road then became Chip Shop's competition for a short while. I heard rumor's of chip shop closing due to pre early sales of GTA IV plus issues with rent and being under cut by other shops like Gamestation.
