Made a new video i edited a few days ago. GT cars and formula Renault cars in it. A nice crash too.

let me know what do you think about it, and give suggestions; as always they are really welcome.

Nice video! One suggestion though is to cut between the scenes near the beginning of the video (in the pits, etc) quicker. I also fell in to the same trap with Retro Core. You always want to show as much as possible however quicker shorter clips always makes for a more interesting video.

By the way, what encoding is used on that clip? It's very nice!. I'm currently using On2VP6 codec at 1000kbps.

    h.264, 2 passages at i think top 2500kbs in 1280x720.

i think you can achieve really good dvd quality with 800 or even less kbps. i remember making a vid at 350-400 in 640x and looking relly nice too O_O

H264 is INSANE in this circustances, you should try it.

Oh I don't know. I like the stuff at the beginning. Watching the guy applying the tyres is very interesting. Perhaps the back end of the car could be edited a bit and the surreal zoom in to the driver could maybe be sped up? That said, I think they would stand great as they are if you were to not have music and have a commentary. It is an interesting choice of music and I like the way you've kept some of the actual sound in there, but in my mind, motor racing shouldn't really have a music track, but a commentary track. It works, don't get me wrong, it's just my personal preference.

I think perhaps that's what puts me off music on such things - it is personal preference. You know when you watch skater vids on Youtube - some of them put heavy metal songs on, some of them put rap songs on... it's their personal preference, but you can alienate intended viewers with your choice of music. Not that I'm saying I dislike your choice, far from it, but I know racing fans who would say "what the hell is this music about?" One thing that I think puts me off music being used, on Youtube videos at least, is that they've just put on their favourite songs and of course not paid the copyright fees. Use of original music would be cool... which might leave people saying "Ooh, what's this music?" Of course, not everyone is a musician. Still, you could perhaps go to local gigs and if there's a band you like, ask them if you could use their original tune on your video. That would be great promotion for both of you! Well, that's just a suggestion ;-)

The video is very nice, though. The camerawork is good and pretty darn steady. You even got a crash, nice! I don't think there's much you could do to improve it without getting another cameraman or two and editing different angle shots together!

I have a problem with the video - it cuts out at about 3:09, but there should be another minute or so. Does anyone else have the same problem? I even refreshed it. It buffers past that point, but freezes when it gets there.

I like the track - might have to pay a visit sometime!

you would be welcome here to the track! i wouldn't mind showing you around :)

it's trange it gets stuck... anyone have tried downloading the file instead of streaming it?

BTW the song is from Valkyrie profile: silmeria ;) guess someone noticed it?

i placed music along with the car's sound because i don't have a directional mic, so the sounds from different cars in different parts of the track would be resonating sometimes (i hope i explained myself :p )...

almost 100% was taken freehand, beside the white BMW scene. the hv20 is a great camera for its price, really!

I liked the video. It had a lot of great footage.

Just a couple critiques, most of which has already been stated.
There were a couple of quick cuts and scenes. Particularly right at the 0:54 mark. There's just a flash of a red car then a quick dissolve to the track.
Also, at the beginning, it seemed like all the shots were taken from the same height (head/chest level). Try getting lower and trying out different angles to make shots seem more interesting than they really are.
I felt like some of the effects didn't really fit with the overall feel of the video.
I really liked the overhead view of the yellow car in the pit. That was super cool.
The crash was AWESOME. Editing was solid, music was cool, and it's cool that you've got access to the tracks. Good job!

Yeah, I noticed that flash of a frame quickly near the beginning, too, lol.

I wonder if the video glitched on upload, perhaps?

Those are some nice results from a handheld compact, certainly. A nice little camera.

That village looks nice. Reminds me of all the games that have rooftop scenes, like Quantum of Solace for example. hehe!

Yes, I'd like to get to Italy one day. I could go and buy some of Nicola's olive oil, too!!

You get free access for GT/turism/monotype race practice, and it's just a 5e for most not so famous races, and with complete freedom of movement in the track... some people get there for cooking in the open air, and stay there enjoying sun, roasted meat and wine :D

i love this track, it allows you to see almost 50% of the track from all the places!

you are all welcome to italy! ;)

Sounds like a great day out, really!

My local track is much like that - a great view of most of the track from wherever you stand. OK, it isn't a huge track, but they use it for rallycross and such. Actually, it was on Top Gear.... when they did the bus racing.

Yeah, I hate how bigger tracks charge you extra on top of the entrance fee to go in certain areas. I've seen similar at air shows, too... smaller ones allow complete freedom and you can wander near the planes before the display. Larger ones charge you to do that.

great looking video and i dont think the music ruins it, its always a personal preference and i cant say im a fan of this peticular piece but it was still not that extreme or inapropriate to the imagery, keep it up!

id like to see more cuts from different sections of the track tho, dont just do 5shots from one curve and then switch.. mix em up a bit :)

id love to ride my bike at mugello some day, alot of the swedish road racers have weeklong practice sessions at tracks around spain/italy during the winter season, if i just wasent working so much :(

sadly when the races are not too important you are not allowed to enter tribunes, so the correct places for taking videos are really a few...

and also the ground was a nightmare :D mud everywhere and really slippery too :p

What software do you use to encode the files? I use Adobe CS3 Flash encoder but that won't allow H246 codec :( Also what format are your streaming videos? Are they flash?

Why not do them as AVI or MPEG and put them on Youtube? Let them do the conversion! Youtube HD is actually pretty decent.

Because I'm not a cheap ass. I want everything on my site to be ON my site. Streaming from YouTube just looks cheap. Besides, You Tube has a 10 minute limit and their HD isn't really that good to be honest and they don't offer Stereo audio.

i use sony vegas for editing, then i export as m2t and the proceed to encode/deinterlace/cut it in mencoder. if you pc is fast you can achieve INCREDIBLE quality.

if you are interested i can try to help you out with it.
