Needle surfing isn't something new to me, my mat has a raised area and really need to get a new mat. But recently I got 4 records that have noticeable raised wobbling. Nothing to the point where it affects the sound quality but enough to bother me. Most methods I've found involve 2 panes of glass a 100 degree oven and 3 minutes. Then there's this thing called the Vinyl Flat which does the same thing, just in a more controller envornment with instructions (Oven or it's own heating bag) Finally the one I'm trying, a few really heavy books in a warm room for a week or two. This seems the least risky. Granted I don't have any bowls or anything and it's not as bad as some of the warps I've seen on You Tube. Still, as I understand warps can shorten the life of a stylus or eventually damage the record further, or so I hear. Are there other methods I haven't heard of?
i need to do this myself, happened to my purple rain album. i set it behind my xbox360...... and end result was warped vinyl so yea lol
I'm worried about the bottom shelf of my LP bin, It's right next to my heater and the wood wasn't enough of a heat bumper. I have like 2 inches of cardboard between the radator and my LP Bin, that I hope is enough to dissipate the heat. I never have the heat up past 75f so I should be ok.
Vinyl fan myself. I've never been bold enough to try an oven - too worried that the temps might be a bit off in most of them. I HAVE fixed some mild warping by pressing between heavy books for a month though, so I can confirm compression can work.
We can help with that. "Heeeeey yaaaaaa! Heeeeeeeey yaaaaaaa! Shake it, shake, shake it. Shake it, shake, shake it. Shake it like a Polaroid picture!"
