So I bought a random game cube at a yard sale that had a ribbon wire hanging out of the bottom.....so I disassembled it and found a viper gc extreme chip inside....but sadly it has no usb programmer attached to the ribbon wire outside the case....is there anything I can do about this? I can not test the gc because it came with no controllers or wires or anything of that sort
Unfourtunately you cannot flash the chip if it does not have the programmer. More than likely though it already has a bios flashed so it will work fine without the programmer. On another note, if you would like to sell the chip or trade it for an Original Xbox chip, please let me know.
Well guess I get the cords and such around and see what I can figure out I know these things are about as hard to come by an an X3 (which fortunately I did come across one recently) and that the only chip available is the xenogc for the cube anymore....wish we would have more people with the talent of bennydiamond (original xbox chip dev) and Robert webb (dev for the saturn chip I beleive) that developed quality mod chips for older/retro systems
Excellent to know....what are the actual features of this chip....I mean like I know it plays backups and runs Cobra bios/os and can run cheats as well as has a 2mb flash but is there anything like specific I should look into with it? A different bios or particular homebrew or anything else like that?
Go back and knock on the door where the yard sale was. Ask if they happen to have anything to go along with the Gamecube you purchased. They might just have a box of games, controllers, cables and that Viper Programmer that's of no use to them anymore.
Took ure advice and went back to where I got it they had a few games for it that I bought on my second visit back and the programmer was in one of the game cases awesome........I also picked up some cords and and controller at a local thrift store started it up and all seems to work.....however it does not appear to be flashed when I turn the dip switch on it just says press a button to flash or press a different button to proceed
The entire Viper GC Extreme is now installed. Only lack the programming software? Maybe these files will help!
Cobra BIOS v2.1i (includes manual) As mentioned previously, the Viper GC Extreme does not require programmer to update BIOS, it can be updated from disc. If anyone wants more information about this specific release, check here: http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&topic=6321&forum=76#35177
Ya I stumbled across several eurasia bios files that sound interesting for this particular chip as well as the qoob chip (not that this one matters) here: http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=94 I'm kinda curious about the viper 2.1i bios listed there it dosent have much information on what exactly the difference is between that and the regular 2.1 BIOS
ok lets give this flashing thing a crack from windows 10 and see if it will work im well aware that most of this stuff is older and completely intended for being ran on windows XP but unfortunately i do not have anything running windows XP available at this point in time
Worst case, you could download vm ware player, install windows xp then just pass through the USB device. The vm will see it like it's directly plugged into a Windows xp machine. But I'm pretty sure I got mine working in at least windows 7, but could have been 8 or 10 -I don't really remember the last time I used it. I think there were newer drivers on the Swiss forum iirc
I don have the original usb cable that came with it windows 10 detected it but didn't ask for drivers perhaps I need to install them with the device manager or something I'm not sure on the procedure with all of this when I start the gc with everything plugged in the usb cord the pc and the programmer in the serial port and I press B to flash the screen gables up on me...not sure if I'm supposed to plug the usb cord in after I press B to flash or what....working on getting an old xp machine anyhow I'm looking into other projects for older consoles that are requiring older computers.....seen some guy sellino an xp pc on fb but he wanted $50 it was an old dell optiplex....damn thing is only worth maybe $20 lol
You don't need an xp machine. Later driver here http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=18 You can do also everything in a vm that needs older operating systems too.
I'm trying to flash via dvd from the cobra flash screen but every time I try it reads the disc and says error reading disc press B to cancel......now I've read a lot about pot tweaking the GC and I have not done that yet....do I need to pot tweak this in order to get it to flash from dvd, and if so what's a good resistance to set this at that's safe for the laser yet works on DVD-R media? It's at DOL-001 model if that helps with determining anything.
well got the BIOS flashed via DVD now im assuming in order to make the 2MB of flash rom space useful to me for DOL files i will have to send them via USB? also how do i get my hands on a cheat file for this so i can load the cheats menu up with a selection of codes like an AR?
