I just saw a Virtua Fighter 3 board on eBay, and I was wondering how hard it would be to make a supergun for such a board. First off, I know it uses a medium resolution monitor, so you'd have to either find one of those (how, I've no idea) or find a convertor of some sort to use it on a regular TV (which I don't think exists). As for the other parts - sound, power, and controls - is there adequate documentation out there to explain how this might be done? Seems like it would be pretty cool to have since there was never a good console port of the game, but is it possible and would it be exceedingly difficult to get it to work?
Model 3 is Mid-Res (24khz) or 31khz (selectable by some jumper block on-board) As you mentioned already, don't expect that to work on regular TVs/Superguns. But then it *may* work with some VGA monitors. And with some tinkering you can even set it to work on Sync On Green mode with another jumper hidden on the video board .... Nw regarding the inputs, I don't know how to help you...
How could one ascertain as to whether or not a particular VGA monitor would work? Other than just plugging it in, of course.
Well... When I had a MODEL3 here to tinker with, it was a Virtua Fighter 3 game. It was not in good shape so it had lots of graphics problems. Sadly the repair was beyond my skill at the time. At least I could do lots of interesting tests with the board, including use a VGA monitor in it. It worked after the jumpers were changed. Don't ask me which ones I changed because honestly I don't remember anymore. That was a long (5 years or more) time ago.
You'll need this (really designed to get it working in a Jamma cab rather than supergun), but it ain't cheap! You could make your own if you got the pin outs. http://www.arcade-game-sales.com/products/sega-model-wiring/5765-1.html
