Well even though the game already is out on ps3, the 360 version won't be out for another 2 or 3 months. Anyway after work I decided to visit my local arcade, and to my surprise what did I spot

Seems the tech guy there just finished setting it up when I got there. I asked him if they imported it from japan, he said no but wouldn't say where they got it.

Then I asked if any of the other tilts have it(tilt are a chain of arcades here in the U.S. that have a large amount of new and old arcades, gaining quite popularity) anyway he said no and that it was the only one in the U.S.

Things I did notice. First of all the HD screen it uses is projection, however its contrast is a little bland and a little dull on edges. 2nd on the sega logo screen there were numbers displayed below in the fashion of say a cd key.

The game itself and the panal with the characters moves list were all in english.

I gave it a whirl and man was it amazing to finally play the actual arcade version. The guy said I was the first to play it(I guess it kinda seems lame when the ps3 versions been out, but I was a bit excited).

However I'm not sure if this version is a beta or what. It does have the raitings sticker on it. As for cost it's only fifty cents a play.

We will never get a machine like this where we live. The last new game we got was Tekken Tag Tournament.

You have to play it standing? The monitor also does look somewhat cheap compared to the LCD screen setups that can be found here.

Of course it's nice that it made it outside Japan but where's the fun of arcade VF5 if there's no saveable player history and no online mode? Beggars can't be choosers but why bring it to the US and strip it of all the essential features?

Actually it was just a fast assumption based on the pics (no card slot on the machine).

I wonder what has become of the ALL.Net network. According to Gamasutra they brought that to the US one year ago. That could be a basis for a VF network. But with the Xbox360 version featuring an online mode and the hardcore demographic the game is aimed at I doubt Sega-Sammy will invest in developing an arcade network for VF5 like in Japan.

The cabinet looks awful. Still, better than nothing I guess.

Reminds me of the Megalo cab a bit. But still looks pretty western styled... I prefer the Lindbergh LCD screen cabs... pretty cool indeed^^

Taito have recently released a cab quite like the Linbergh one. It looks cheaper than the Sega cab like many Taito products but still quite nice. Could be a good one to pick up for the home if it is cheaper than Sega's cab.

We should start fighting about what type of hit the engine is going to take on the 360. I think we already discussed this though in another thread though.

Yeah there is no vf.net This version is pretty bare bones, meaning it's just the regular arcade game and thats it.

The issue with making vf.net reality in the U.S. is the fact like mentioned before the overall arcade scene in the U.S. is about dead.

While places like tilt and dave and busters get good buisness, there aren't enough of them to fully revive the market. The last big hit here for arcades was Initial D ver1-3.

I agree with you Yakumo about the Japanese cab being a lot nicer. Is Virtua Fighter 5 still doing well over there despite the ps3 release?

From impressions posted in preview they say the game runs smooth, though a couple of colors are slightly off in some of the stages.

But it's a given considering the 360 uses a different gpu. Actually on a forum I remember them discussing that the Lindbergh hardware is actually weaker than the 360 and ps3 itself.

The Lindbergh was supposed to be 360 based then they went with an Nvidia card which made PS3 porting a snap....

    I forget the rest.

The engine (fighting engine, not graphics) was in tact 100%
Assuming you could get a good stick the home version was great practice for the arcade.

Source? Lindberg currently has no similar architecture, so PS3 ports are not a snap... although perhaps easier than to a 360. AFAIK, it was never intended to share architecture for anything.

EDIT: The vacuum tube is the bomb!

I'm sure if they wanted ports to be a priority, they'd have used a PowerPC chip...IBM seem to be whoring them out enough.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most games use OpenGL, hence making ports easy as piss? I would have though the fact that the arcade versions on a x86 architecture while the PS3 is a PPC one would make more difference, especially with things like endian-ness.
