Somebody just told me it's been confirmed but I can't seem to find any info on it. Yes that's 5 not a typo.

I'm wondering how can 5 be improved on I've been playing for 3 days and it's just about perfect to me. Smooth framerate, Great AI, Amazing visuals and as deep as ever.

But yeah does anybody know if there is some truth to VF5: Evo?

the upgrades on VF concern fighting mechanics mostly, so there should be some fine-tuning between characters etc more than visual or AI changes I guess.

The same way 4's two sequels improved on it. New moves, new items, basically. Then again, 5 is basically 4/4Evo/4FT in 720p w/ new models and a couple of new properties. A pretty lame excuse for a sequel. That's probably why Tekken is killing it in the arcades.

Yes. VF5 was a bit of a dud. It is hardly a sequel... more like a tweak with better skins and higher resolution.

If you like a tweaked system and have to have the graphics. Considering the community for Evo was many fold VF5's (and lasted longer) I would go with Evo. FT was the worst though.

I thought 5 really took off.

I like Evo but I find 5 to run and play alot smoother it's the first VF to truely animate well and feel right. I always felt the older VFs were janky between frames. 5 is the first one to really feel silky smooth.

    FT wasn't nessessary.

Now how is 5 a tweek over 4 rather than a sequel? One could Argue Evo was a sequel too since full VF sequels usually add just 2 extra characters.

And what's the deal with Takarashi. They got him in once why can't they get him right again?

Going back to tekken. It was years before I got to own a few tekken Installments I own 3, 5 and DR. The series seems almost the same from sequel to sequel and the new characters are getting dumber and dumber Esp in 6. But 6 does add a few new elements......still looks like 5.5 to me though.

Not that DOA 4 is much of a leap either just in the AI department which is brutal and it seems slightly deeper than it used to be.

You've not played any of the VF4's in the arcade, have you? I don't know for sure, but I would bet a shiny corner that they did not recapture any new motions (other than the new moves) for VF5.

The numbers are generally supposed to add a major component, as well as characters and moves. 5 adds these new goofy dodge attacks where dodge->delay->attack, and a few other property changes (like certain moves/throws cancelling each other) but that's really it. 3 was a big step w/ the unlevel rings and dodge button (although kind of cheesy). 4 w/ the enclosed rings, new evade, evade attack, sabaki, and the VF.net system which was fucking HUGE. The changes in 5 to someone that's been playing the series for a while is just not enough. They seem to have spent all their budget on making it HD. I agree it's hard to upgrade to the right spot, and not alienate fans that have spent thousands on the game up until that point, but this left me really underwhelmed.

    Nope, google around. He's gone.

Not a fan in the least, but people are still playing 5 in the arcades. Most arcades have twice as many cabs as VF5, and they're full. I never see anyone playing VF5 anymore. When VF4 first came out, it was the polar opposite.

Yeah I like Taka too it's something about not getting the hitboxes on him right.

anywho since I'm in the states where

    1. arcades are a dying breed and
    2. VF is NOT the reason we go to arcades and thus very few have them.

No I have not played a VF in an arcade since 3 was brand spankin new.

I hate the AI in DOA4. They just know exactly what your going to do every second, it's almost as bad as SF2 XBLA.

On the same token I think the VF 5 AI could be better. the game takes advantage of the hardware it's on in all 3 versions but not as far as AI is conserned.

I'm not sure what the arcade version is like, but I read the AI routines had to be re-written for multi-core for consoles and it isn't as sharp/more error prone than the original code.

One core could be dedicated to AI.....

The AI in the arcade is fine I guess. It's not really meant to be played in single player though, so it's a moot point, really. They ramped up the difficulty starting w/ VF4: Evo. You can't spam the same attacks/throws, etc.

AI is the most complex part of the program and for it to work on the PS3 I'm guessing Sega tried to split it into jobs for the SPUs. You can't offload all of that onto one of them. I'm assuming the XBox 360 version is a port of that code since it is basically the same game with a few tweaks here and there. If it had started on the XB360 you could have had one of the cores dedicated to the AI without threading, but it wasn't and it was one of the first Sega CELL coding projects. I'm not even sure how much of the CELL the game actually uses, it might use mostly the PPC core for the majority of the game and a few SPUs to help out.

That's not to say AI will be weaker on the CELL necessarily. I don't think as much care was taken on the VF5 port as could have been. I guess the Nvidia chip made it seem quite an attractive early release to Sega at the time and time itself was an issue.
