I have a virtua gun for the Saturn with an extremely poor trigger button, it only registers one out of every five/six clicks. So I want to do the mod of installing an arcade microswitch as detailed in this video. But I have a couple of questions: 1) What type of wire should I use? (He talks about it at 1:20). I currently have some 7/0.2 equipment wire, or some 22AWG hook up wire (as used in guitar electronics). Will either of these do? 2) In connecting the wire to the terminals of the microswitch, should I use spade terminals?
22 awg is fine but if you going to use the terminals check that you have the proper space to place the switch.
was thinking of doing this myself just the other day, as mine has gone the same as yours, the wire you use does not really matter too much as its a simple switch mod. i'm going to be doing this mod myself eventually. the most important thing is positioning the new switch and securing it in place. rather than using terminals, soldering directly is probably a better option
Cool, will probably use the thinner equipment wire then as I have more of that lying around. Was going to pick up some spade terminals tomorrow but won't bother now and just solder directly to the switch terminals... I have a 15w and 30w soldering iron, which one should I use for this job?
That's a great little mod! I recently repaired one of my Saturn guns and one of my DC guns that were suffering from the same issues. For the Saturn gun I simply replaced the microswitch (got a batch of 50 or 100 of those 5mmx5mm switches ages back fro microswitching A2600 joysticks and repairing an Amiga mouse), but for the DC I also reinforced the trigger as the plastic wasn't as strong as it needed to be and wasn't delivering enough pressure to the switch to activate it every time (I used a small rod of plastic and hot glue to sort it out). Both work perfectly now!
Finally got round to doing this today. Haven't soldered in about 5 years so was a bit shaky at first but got there in the end: Had a quick blast through Virtua Cop 2 and it makes such a huge difference. Much more 3 point shots now and every trigger pull being registered. I'm a happy bunny Oh I started with a 15w but it wasn't working too well so switched it up to a 30w which was perfect.
I saw a guide on Racketboy about this. It's very interesting, and I wonder if I can use an Omron microswitch, like those in the Sanwa joysticks. I can only find those near me, and Amazon doesn't seem to sell Happ ones.
It's a great gun. To me, it feels just like an arcade gun. Mine has the original trigger mechanism (I assume), and it works fine. Mine is the Japanese model.
they're normally great but the switch does wear out, currently my logic 3 predator gun is better than the SEGA. the japanese ones look cool being black and all and go nicely with the black saturns,
I was toying with the idea of painting mine black, but can't be bothered with sanding/priming/sanding etc. If there was a spray paint which you could just put on top I'd consider it.
