Visa renewal - UK Passport holder I'm off to Japan for 4 months in a few weeks, I am mainly going to be relaxing, seeing friends, meeting people, playing PS3, playing mahjong far too much, etc. I've decided to get a easily changable ticket but how easy is to get the visa extention? I am a UK passport holder and can stay for 6 months, but as you get 90 days then you have to go to an immigration office to renew it but the amount of useful information around is very small and not very useful or not written in a useful way. Any advice, useful phone numbers, websites?
When I applied for mine I told them I was doing a paper on the culture of Japan. I provided a few mock up sheets that I made on my PC and that was that. No problem or is there? Well, a friend tried the same thing and got turned down, twice ! We are both British passport holders. The immigration don't need to help you and don't need to give a reason why you can't have an extension. Just try and keep a happy look. Yakumo
Oh yeah, They'll ask about how much money you have so say about 1 million yen. You don't want to put too much down mind you. Yakumo
Well my living costs are going to be mimimal as I'm staying with fiance and with friends across the country. I'm planning to bring 500,000 Yen and take a photocopy of my bank statement so it still looks like I have 4 grand in my account. I Also have a few contacts out here in Japan so I can get 'Meetings' drawn up quite easily. Chances are that in the 4th month I'll be going to Hong Kong for work so I'm hoping I can use work for a good excuse to stay another month or so. Do I need to get a alien registration card if I stay more the 90 days? How long should I apply before my 90 days run out?
Bank statements are not required if you're entering on a tourist visa... even if you intend to stay for the full 90 days. I can't help you on the extension thing. YOu might as well put 90 days on your immigration form, and worry about the extension later.
