Man.......Just a little bit ago the dog was taken off to the animal hospital to be put to sleep..

His name was Bear and he was a brown little chiuaua.
We had him for 15 years...since I was three....he was me and my grammas dog. The last few days he had been having tons of problems, (he had congestive heart failure) and was having problems breathing and stuff. I don't know....it's really sad though..but he did have a great long life...so I guess thats good.

Anyhow...yeah...I was just kind of upset about it and felt like posting about it....

    RIP Bear... :smt022

Losing ones pet is never a nice experience. Been thru it a few times.

Sorry about your loss, but at least Bear is no longer suffering

Well...my mom just got back from taking him...she said everything went fine and he seemed happy. I actually feel better about it too, he had a great long life, especially for a little dog, and has traveled across the U.S with us...so no tears.:)

My condolences mate. i've never lost an animal -not yet- but i can feel your pain.

my dog is getting older and closer to the end, well, he still plays jump run and all, but he's having some problems. He's 11 years old, and he have some strange troubles that scare me. Among his troubles, his ears started to ''rott'', smelling really bad and looking brownish. he have some problems with his bones and he sleep more tahn ever. I hope he'll get better, love him so much. :(

  9. Sorry to hear about your dog, Phrequency. I lost my dog a few summers ago, and she was about 15 years old at the time as well. I was only 4 or 5 when we first got her, so she was sortof a lifelong companion before I went off to college.

15 years is an awful long time for a dog to live, but then again, it's a long time to accumulate a lot of fond memories as well. I'm sure there were plenty of things to look back and laugh on, or just rememeber with a smile. For example, Brown (the dog's name - chocolate lab/Chesapeake Bay retriever mix) actually got hit by a semi truck when she was about 8 or so, and managed to survive, something that never ceases to amaze my family.

And while it's usually never any consolation to the owners, the process of putting animals to sleep is relatively painless, and especially if they were suffering, it's usually better for them anyways.

Tnat kinda sucks :( We've had our dog Jodie for 10 years - to us she is the best dog in world, unique in her own little ways and also a bit of a nutter she is more like 1 of the family than a pet. Luckily she hasn't had any real health problems despite not seeing the vet too much, though next time I've got some spare cash I'm going to book her in for a full service to determine how healthy she is and if she has any developing ailments as she isn't getting any younger. 15 years is a good amount of time for a dog though - I can only hope my dog manages to live to such an age and maintain her identity we have come to love instead of being like geriatrics bumbling and geenrally being grumpy. It will be a sad day when she dies, but it's not l never knew it would happen someday..

A few years back I was asked if I wanted to have a dog put down but I declined as it was a friends dog, a Japanese Akita called Kosho. It used to be quite friendly but one day it attacked me - leaped up to rip my throat out, so I raised my arm and it had a bite of that, before letting go and mutilating my leg - it almost amputated it from the knee down, could see the bone and everything and it wasn't very nice laying there in a puddle of blood waiting for the ambulance either. After some hospital treatment I got patched up, but my leg was locked into a 70degree position and I was encouraged to keep trying to stretch it otherwise I'd never have been able to walk properly again.

Anyhow, even though you may no longer have the dog, provided you don't go senile you'll always have the fond memories. Granted they're not as good as the real thing, but it's better to have loved and lost than never loved at all :)

Holy crap dude! Is your leg alright nowadays??

Yeah, Bear was definetly a part of the family, he had a cool personality like most of our pets. I usually don't like dogs but I definetly did like him. The vet sent us a card today saying we have there sympathy....which is pretty damn nice.

hehe yeah the leg is fine nowadays except scarred around the knee, though they're fading away as the years go by. Funnily enough though I had a severe fracture to my left anterior iliac spine 10 months later (basically my leg dislocated itself, relocated itself then destroyed a chunk of my pelvis) so I had to learn to walk twice within a year -_-
