Hello, Its Mr. casual again, and I was wondering about something...What do you think games will be like in the future?
When i first played Halo: CE, I thought something like "this is the peak of graphics!!" Very, ignorant at the time, too. I saw Halo 2, and despite some problems with graphics, it was so much better.

My ideas of "almost near the peak" games would be something like a playable "Final fantasy the spirits within" (I know it was a bad movie, but im talking about characters that look SO real, it looks like you are playing a movie.)

That could very well happen 10 years from now, or even today...

After they reach the "peak" I would also love a reprisal of the 2d genre. And with a powerful new system, you could put Neo geo to shame! I know Xbox along other systems did 2d games, but think of the possibilites!!! :-D

    What do you guys think?

I think games will take place directly in the brain. The human brain is the most advanced computer on earth , when we finally begin to understand how it all ticks wetware will be the future. Need more memory for bigger maps etc? Grow a few more brain cells :smt043 Everything would be rendered by the brain, and as such not only will we be able to visualise photorealistic imagery but we will be able to smell, taste and truly fear some of the next generation of deadly foes.

And then Nintendo will come along, and release some "classic" N64 games ported into wetwire format.

when you ask the question : what will be the future of video game?
we (and you) need to answer about the innovation, not the visual shell that makes games alive, the graphics!

i think that if the maket continue to make games all 'bout graphics , it will die. Yes, it wil die. Sure, games will still makes billions of dollards each years, but it will die in a certain way, it will loose is esence and what really mather: gameplay and inovation. gameplay and inovation are the two things that count the most in the eyes of true gamers, not this stupid war of technology somes who didn't understood the purpose of games invented, this purpose is fun.

more and more players are trapped in this ideology , games need quick ass graphics, and if a new system is invented to replace the old one you had, then this old one is now a bad system that offers no good games. don't care about the games you had so much fun playing with, it's now past. its bullshit. now, you need to have this new system to have fun, because this new one is so much powerfull. don't care about the games , there's nothing good for now on it , but compagnies wil lbe forced to makes games on the newer supports anyway, because everyone will do like you: they will sell their old systems to get the new , improved and more powerfull system.

i agree, sometimes innovation needs technology, but inovation isn't nececary graphics.

one of the best quote someone said in the industry was this:
'' we don't care about graphics anymore , we are already near the limit , and this is acceptable, we need to focus on inovation now.''
the quote isn't really accurate , but it still say what he whanted to say wen he said his line. i won't say who said this, it does't mather , but in a industry that suffer more and more of saturation, this guy know what's really mather , and what the future of the industry need.

but sadly , this world is rulled by money , and i fear this innovation will not come soon. gaming compagny fear inovation, they rather whant to go on already made ways , on known paths. and this is the worst thing the industry needs.

all you see here is my opinion but its also a truth, nonetheless.

Honestly, I don't think the concept of video gaming will change that much in the future. Many have predicted the coming of VR devices and consoles that are controlled without the use of physical controllers, etc ages ago. When you think about it, many of us still game using a console, controller, and some sort of game media. This is approximately the same way the Atari 2600 and other older consoles were played and that was over 25 years ago.

Games taking place in the brain??? that's scary as shit (shazbot). What about an unintelligent gamer...would he be stuck with a crappy system?? We'd all be doing crossword puzzles and brainteasers to upgrade to the next gen technology... :smt043

How about uploading what you look like with one of the "in your brain" games, and choosing cool armor or clothes, etc. from a HUGE database or make your own. it could be a photorealistic MMO (any genre) game.
You could be a single unit in a MASSIVE army clan against another MASSIVE clan. Picture an open field--first person--with a sword, and 1000s of allies going at it in medieval melee, or picture yourself in a sci fi setting with lasers and weapons Vs. a clan of alien players.

    (dont get excited Cahaz)

I suppose it COULD be like a video game matrix. :-D

Where are games going in the future? They're getting more expensive to make. Each game has to have guaranteed appeal to a large number of people. Creativity is suffering and I don't see it getting much better any time soon...

Brain implants are a very, very long way away ^_^

i've wondered about this a lot. someday you're gonna go up to your computer and turn it on and it'll take one nanosecond to start. you click on everything and it'll take the same amount of time. there's gotta be a peak eventually to how fast they get. sure with new software better hardware is needed but eventually we'll hit a ceiling no? when we can tell the difference between a game and real tv images. hopefully its not more and more blood though, i dont mind violent games its just that gta and all the like haved bored that whole genre. i'll always play remakes and sequals to my fav games thats for sure. i can just imagine a bunch of buddies sitting in a circle around a hooka with sayen looking eye attachments of some sort. it'll be like the end of the evolution baby video by perjam where everyone is just wired up or whatever. you'll have to excuse me i just got in from a long run and am all winded my minds gotta catch up with me. but yah i know in the future i'll have some super sick nintendo portable in my pocket and a big dog hover board under my arm :smt082

For the forseable future, I don't see games changing very much, as in they are something you watch on a screen and interact with via an input device i.e. controller, gun, dance dance revolution mat, etc.

There have been mainstream variations from this in the past (virtual boy, VR goggles for your computer, that eyetoy doohickie, DK conga drums, even the old NES U-force, powerglove, etc) but those devices are novelties at best nowadays.

However you can see that gameplay has changed from system to system, in direct corellation with the capabilites of said game system. As in the old NES was best suited to platform style and shooter games, while 16 bit systems made possible detailed RPGS, 32 bit gave us the 3rd person adventure (ala Metal gear solid, GTA, even mario 64)

So if you look at it, you can see that each jump in technology does two things to the games: 1) The gameplay from the previous era is brought to new heights and 2) New game play mechanics that were not possible before are implimented.

So, what is possible with the 128 bit systems that has not been done yet with the 32 and 64 bit systems? I'd say things like voice recongition, like a RTS or RPG where you use voice comands for non-player characters, etc. And for 256-bit systems? Who knows.

But if you mean the far, far future, like 2035, who knows. Depends if they ever get somekind of hologram technology down, like in Star Trek. I think we'll see the Matrix/Johnny Nemonic type games-in-your-brain like Legit says first, then maybe some "true" VR. But I doubt that our form of video games will ever go away. Who has time to suit up with all kinds of mechanical shit all over themselves to play a game of Halo pt. 37 when you could get essentially the same experince from a small handheld?

The internet will take over the world, and strangle anyone who does not do its bidding.

The Illuminati, in conjunction with MicroSony, publishing under the brand "Nintenega" will mass produce brain implant video game systems, which will keep everyone jacked into the intranet at all times. This way, you can play games at all times, and if you get potentially dangerous (to them) thoughts, they can make you play Super Man 64 and Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000 until you beg for mercy.
